    Tiling straight on to render?

Thanks tiler jase. I did consider a dot and dabbed plasterboard lining but was worried that it wouldn't cope with the weight of the tiles but if you reckon its up to the task I'll give it a go. I'm interested to know the benefits of using aquapanel instead of plasterboard in this...

Is it zone 2? Can I put a duel fuel towel rad there?

Thanks for your reply ColJack. Since posting I have done some further investigation and although I don't have the exact text to hand I'm now pretty sure that the edge of zone 2 is the arc measured from the wall outlet and not the shower head on its hose. There won't be any switches on the...

Is it zone 2? Can I put a duel fuel towel rad there?

I am in the process of building a wetroom and would like to install a heating element in the towel rad. Firstly, I need to make sure that I am understanding the zones correctly. Since this is a 'shower without basin' am I right in my understanding that zone 2 is the area in a 1.2m radius...

    Tiling straight on to render?

Hi, I'm in the process of removing the tiles from my 1970's bathroom walls. I've got loads and loads of 4.25" ceramic 'birdy' tiles to remove. They're an absolute pain to get off as they have been put up using tile adhesive on a render background. What I'm finding is that the render will sooner...

    First router?

Thanks for the replies. l think I'll go for a 1/4" - I like the bit about triming the hedge with a large chainsaw! In truth a 1/4" will probably do all but a few of the jobs I am likely to do. The Trend T4 model looks good and as Bilioustrumpstaine has already stated, it looks like they...

    First router?

Hi, I'm looking to buy my first router. At this stage I can't spend a fortune and was looking for something for £120 or less. I appreciate that you only get what you pay for but I wondered if anyone had any suggestions for a router in this price bracket. The machine will be for occasional DIY...

    Towel radiator questions.

Thanks for the replies, they are greatly appreciated. I will avoid plastic brackets and rubbish bleed screw arrangements. bengasman, thanks for the info regarding current regs. I didn't know that! I have chosen to add the towel rail to the CH circuit and add a thermostatic element and...

    Towel radiator questions.

To the wife's delight I'm finally about to start 'doing up' the bathroom. It hasn't been touched the 35yrs the house has been built and is looking a little jaded to say the least. Eventually it will be a wetroom and we've decided to fit one of those fancy towel radiator things. My question is...

Radiators - Quinn Barlo Compact or Myson Select Compact?

Hi, our plumber replaced all our rads around three years ago with Veha/Trendline rads bought from Plumbase. I'm looking to add another radiator (600x1600 double, single convector) and would like it to be as similar as possible to the original Veha's. However, I can't seem to find Veha...

    Crimped connections in floor void

Cheers plugwash. That's great news. I know some folk don't like the choc boxes but in this instance I'd rather use one of them than heatshrink, so long as it meets the regs. Once again thanks to everyone who replied. I am a diy'er who is slowly improving my family home and I really...

    Crimped connections in floor void

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I have insulated crimps and a ratchet crimper. I get the impression that the self amalgamating tape is to be avoided if at all possible. I didn't like the idea of it anyway but I don't fancy heatshrink much either. I can't imagine it looking very pretty! Shame...

    Crimped connections in floor void

Thanks luminaire. Can I ask, why heatshrink instead of amalgamating tape? Also, is there a particular colour/type or size of heatshrink I should use and should I heatshrink the individual conductors or all three in one go? Thanks once again.

    Crimped connections in floor void

I need to use the above method to join some 2.5T&E. I intend on using red butt connectors and a ratchet crimper to carry out the connections. Would it be acceptable to place the joint inside a choc box an refit the floorboards or should I just wrap the crimped connections in self amalgamating...

    ACO shower channel drain

Hi, I'm about to embark on a diy wetroom project and I'm considering using the above drain. It looks ideal for my needs as the outlet being at the end suits my floor joist/soil stack setup. Has anybody used or even seen them and are they any good? Also, I've visited the manufacturers website...

Wet room project - Tile choice???

I'm considering undertaking a diy wet room project. It's a small room approx 1.2m x 2.4m x 2.3m high. Currently it looks like I will go for a 'On The Level' tray former and the Aquaproof tanking system to make the floor and wet walls watertight. What I'd like to know is if I should be looking...

Boggy lawn areas (not yet turfed)

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me with the following. Our back garden used to slope fairly steeply towards the house. This slope was covered with a mass of moss, weeds and the odd bit of grass. In the summer my wife (and I) decided that it would be a good idea to get rid of the slope and...

    Digging compacted stoney ground

Thank you to all for your replies, in particular Thermo and Ghandalf. Since posting I have managed to borrow a rotorvator. However, this has done no more than 'tickle' the surface. Although I must admit I didn't water the ground as suggested. I think I will opt for the second method...

    Digging compacted stoney ground

I'm levelling the gradient in my garden. To do this I need to do some fairly serious digging, 24" at the deepest. The ground is compacted and very stoney. I found that the only way to get at it was with a pick axe and some aggression. Obviously after a weekend of this I'm knackered and thinking...

Advice required - demolishing a garden wall.

Hi Joe-90. Thanks for your post. The wall was built in the early 1970's. The garden will remain a walled garden as I will be applying for planning permission to build another wall closer to my boundary. The end result is that my back garden will be approx 3m wider.

Advice required - demolishing a garden wall.

I am currently considering the prospect of demolishing a 2m high, half brick garden wall. The wall currently acts a divider between my back garden and a portion of my front garden that runs up the side of my end of terrace house. Its removal will create a single larger back garden which I plan...
