Oak Sleepers - Oil / Textrol

Hello, My sleepers have been plained and sanded (with 80 grit). Originally, the plan was to use Textrol oil for a finish, and we already found a colour we like and tested on some offcuts, however on reading more about the product it says it isn't suitable for new wood (because of mill glaze) so...

Drilling 5mm pilot hole x150mm deep through oak sleepers - drill bit recommendations please!

@JobAndKnock you were totally right. It wasn't deep enough at all to get the screw in. The screw I'm using is 6.7 x 150. My understanding was the pilot hole needs to be a few mm smaller for the screw to have something to bite into. In this case would you still suggest a 6mm auger?

Drilling 5mm pilot hole x150mm deep through oak sleepers - drill bit recommendations please!

I'll give it a go. I'm using a spade bit to open up a hole first (dowel pegs going on top) so the length + impact driver for the screws might be enough for what I need it to do.

    Oak Sleepers + Galvanised Steel

Hey folks, When screwing into oak, I've always been told that stainless steel is what you should use. However, when it comes to brackets and things that sit against an oak sleeper, is there any harm in using galvanized steel? The screws attaching it would all be stainless, it's just the metal...

Attaching MDF Skirting - what technique would you use?

Hey folks, I'm working on the skirting in my house and need to decide how to attach it to the wall. Couple of questions: - I've spotted a few recommendations around here about using foam adhesive (low expansion, like Dow Insta Stik), however a lot of my walls bow in the middle, which brings...

Evolution mitre saw stand - preventing saw turning to 45 degrees

Fixed it! It was because I had removed the rubber feet under the saw. This is unnecessary with this model, and doing so will lower it too far. Leave the base feet on and the turn handle will clear the stand rails just fine.

Battening wall for pallet wood - some questions

I want to use battens, so there is space behind to run cables. Yes, I was thinking of using 25mm x 50mm (2x1 inch) battens. When you say 45mm / 60mm screws there seem to be a million different screws in the world - can you link me to the appropriate ones?
