speedfit fittings can't disconnect just like that if properly inserted. I've tried and it's very hard. You can also lock it into place. For fittings that have been there for a while, I even struggle to undo them. Can't imagine them getting undone even by pulling on the pipe.

Is getting rid of the grid a good idea? It was the grid which got blocked by the food waste and caused the water to overflow but without it, all that food waste would have gone straight into the pipe. Couldn't this cause a blockage further down in the future? It would be much harder to unblock...
