    Water and external house wall

There's a manhole cover (inspection chamber?) behind the bush on the higher ground. Could that be leaking then? There's no smell whatsoever.

    Water and external house wall

Not too worried about DPC as I'm assuming it's there. The house isn't too old. I'm more worried about the water marks at the base of the wall in particular on the left...

    Water and external house wall

Should I be concerned about the state of this wall? In particular there's a brick partially missing. The fat grey line to the left is a retaining wall, so ground level to this side is higher. Furthermore, the horizontal line on the wall where the bricks change colour is roughly the level of...

Compression slip coupling and plastic insert

Wrong links! Just assume all sizes are correct. I guess when using compressing fittings with plastic pipes, the inserts aren't supposed to provide a watertight seal, the olive does that. Didn't think about that. Is it the case then for all compression fittings - superseal inserts won't fit them?

Compression slip coupling and plastic insert

I bought this compression slip coupling recently: http://www.tradingdepot.co.uk/compression-fitting-repair-coupling-22mm-x-100mm?gclid=CJWz6IG0wM4CFeYp0wodPQAE-w to fit to a plastic pipe at one end and a copper pipe at the other. I put in a superseal pipe insert in the plastic pipe - this one...

    Building a garden wall

Let's say they're digging the foundation manually, it's only 3.5m, so not much digging, and a low wall, so no deep foundation. I'm not trying to compare quotes, just trying to get an idea of how much it will cost to see if it's even worth doing. This wall is not essential. I have never had this...

    Building a garden wall

Can people give me a rough estimate on how much it will cost to pay someone to build a garden wall 3.5m long, 0.4m high? And long how it will take?

    Rainwater drainage

But the surface water flows towards the gully, not directly in it. This means the area around the gully gets flooded with water as the water flows towards it. So some water will simply seep through the gaps in the cement and the gaps are pretty wide. Is there anything underneath that collects...

    Rainwater drainage

My house is mid-terrace. There are gutter downpipes every two houses, so 1 downpipe is shared by two houses. My rear garden slopes towards the house and slightly to the left where the downpipe joins the gully. So it looks like the slope is on purpose or in any case useful at directing rain water...

How to use this John Guest reducer

speedfit fittings can't disconnect just like that if properly inserted. I've tried and it's very hard. You can also lock it into place. For fittings that have been there for a while, I even struggle to undo them. Can't imagine them getting undone even by pulling on the pipe.

How to use this John Guest reducer

Don't like to mix and match my fittings and this one needs a key anyway to unmount.

How to use this John Guest reducer

http://www.screwfix.com/p/jg-speedfit-pem062215wp-straight-reducers-22x15/18873 I need a standard 22mm to 15mm inline reducer, can't find a pack of 1 on screwfix. I can only find the one above but one end looks strange to me. Can anyone tell me how to use it?

Best way to join waste pipe to gully

Yes, you did mention the cover, I missed that. Shame the standard black plastic cover doesn't fit it. Thanks.

Best way to join waste pipe to gully

Is getting rid of the grid a good idea? It was the grid which got blocked by the food waste and caused the water to overflow but without it, all that food waste would have gone straight into the pipe. Couldn't this cause a blockage further down in the future? It would be much harder to unblock...

Best way to join waste pipe to gully

A picture says a thousand words so what's the best design to end these 3 waste pipes properly in the gully? And I also think this is not the best gully: - the top square part sits on top of a gully pot but it tilts to one side, meaning water easily overflows to the side, - the diameter of...

How do you fit a bath panel?

The template will only help to cut the panel to fit around the pipes, it won't help to put the panel into position?

How do you fit a bath panel?

For a straight front bath panel, it's quite easy: measure and cuto size, then slip the top of the panel under the lip of the bath, screw the bottom of the panel to a batten... But what happens if you have pipes at one end of the bath? you can't really place the panel in front of the bath then...
