internal brick wall to support load other than rafters.

Excuse the sketch. Not to scale. Both purlin and wall are more central to the house. Also note that the external wall is cavity. Only represented as lines.

internal brick wall to support load other than rafters.

Wanting to remove a supporting wall. but have a flush cut with the remaining wall. The load bearing wall goes up into loft space to support purlin. Can in theory a single skin internal non load bearing wall support a steel beam if the load is converted from point load to UDL by use of a...

    Warm roof... Improvement/Development. PD/Planning

With EWI I read that it is not classed as development but as an improvement and can therefor come under PD subject to the usual and that of material finish. So what about warm roofs? They would increase the ridge height. But again is it not an improvement as opposed to development? Any thoughts?

50s bungalow understated rafter? but hold the test of time.

Thanks for the confirmation that it was not me imagining they were undersized and that it is not (as has proved the test of time) going to collapse at the next heavy snow.

50s bungalow understated rafter? but hold the test of time.

Thanks for your post.. I removed the section about 'not' getting up on the roof so that nobody else gets distracted by it and because it is irrelevant. The question is 3x2 timbers at that pitch and span. Does that seem right?

50s bungalow understated rafter? but hold the test of time.

I've just been looking at the spans for a 50s bungalow. according to the architects drawings the 3x2 rafters at a pitch of 37.5 span 2.55 between 7x1 ridge plate and purlin and 2.4 spans down to wall plate with 400mm centres. Obviously it works as it hasn't moved in 65 years...

ECO funding for DIY external wall insulation

I'm unsure on the warping of phenolic re moisture content. Looking at spes isnt it the least vapour permeable let alone moisture permeable? Maybe there is another reason for warping. Curious as how they would have been fixed to warp. Using a demo of builddesk required thickness of mineral (@u...

ECO funding for DIY external wall insulation

Mineral will let it breathe and without a cavity I would say it was crucial Phenolic on the other hand is far better insulater but wont let the brick breathe. If I'm not mistake Phenolic has a U of 0.21 where as Mieral wool 0.25. I have solid and after my research and much thought phenloic...

ECO funding for DIY external wall insulation

Are you looking at mineral or EPS/XPS? What type of construction have you got currently? What U are you trying to achieve? If with mineral (my personal pref) you may find that most suppliers will not sell it to you unless you are qualified. However if you can cut boards and are good with a...
