    Sabre Combi Boiler

Hi My mother has just had a new combi boiler fitted. The plumber promised to fit a 'top of the range' model and mentioned a Worcester. However, when I called round last night he's fitted a huge Sabre. Not sure what to do about it - do any of you have any experience of Sabre boilers ?

    Scalewatcher

We live in a hard water area and I've been thinking about fitting a Scalewatcher device to reduce limescale. I've looked at a few previous posts on the Forum but it still seems unclear whether they really do work. Has anyone got any experience of them - any views on whether they are...

    Radiators

Thanks for your response. I agree you get what you pay for, I just wondered what the actual difference was - is it better quality materials, does the cheaper radiator fail quicker ? To me it's just a piece of metal on the wall so I'm not sure what can go wrong with them as I don't...

    Radiators

Could anyone tell me what the difference is between an expensive panel radiator and one from say Wickes ? The difference in price seems to be quite steep but they look like the same thing to me - same style and shape , powder coated, same BTU output per size, etc. Is there any difference in...

    which boiler ?

I think I may soon need a new boiler. I currently have a Halstead and also an emersion heater, which has proved useful for hot water when the boiler has failed. Don't know whether to ditch the emersion and go for a combi or get an ordinary central heating boiler and keep the emersion - any...

    noisy pipes

thanks Nige F. If it really gets on my nerves I'll try the Fluidmaster, but I'll give this time to settle. what do you reckon about the slight noise - will it weaken the joints or is it too minimal to matter ?

    noisy pipes

hmmm, last night I fitted the LP flow restrictor (the HP was too much, hardly any flow), and have opened the isolator valve fully. The flow is slower - it takes around 90 seconds to fill the cistern - but when the valve shuts off there is very little noise. There is still a small thud but not...

    noisy pipes

thanks. might try the fluidmaster - do they sell them in B & Q or do I need a plumbers merchant ?

    noisy pipes

Last night we lowered the pressure by closing the isolator valve slightly. It now takes a while to fill the cistern but the noise has reduced. Tonight I'll fit the HP flow restricter and see what that does. I'm not holding my breath though. It's so annoying as all I've done is fit the new...

    noisy pipes

No, because they hadn't fitted one on the previous valve. Well at least there wasn't one on the unit - if it had fallen off would it have shown at the top of the pipe ? Do you think I should fit one, or should I alter the pressure by slightly closing the isolator valve under the cistern ?

    noisy pipes

My toilet started to fill very slowly after flushing. I checked the Inlet Valve into the cistern and found it was faulty. I replaced it with exactly the same thing - a Torbeck Bottom Entry Inlet Valve. The toilet filled properly but now when the float reaches the right level to shut the water...

    Boiler will not ignite

thanks. what do you think it might be if the gas valve is OK ?

    Boiler will not ignite

I have a Buckingam Halstead boiler (or Halstead Buckingham, can't remember which way round it is). A few weeks ago it wouldn't ignite - so no HW or CH. Plumber came out and replaced the gas valve - all was well but now it's doing it again. The power is on and the pilot light is lit...
