I suppose I could leave the top and connect it as it is. The flex would be much to long then though. I'd have to shorten it from the other end. I unscrewed the bulb holder, but can't see how to remove the wires. Any idea?

If you look at the cable you'll see the brown live loops back. It's a tight loop, but visible in the picture. It's connected to another length of live of a greater diameter. That's the one sticking up out of the sleaving on the left. I don't know why this is, and I'm doubious about removing...

The added bit with the greater diameter. The bit picking up in the picture above, which has been added to the live wire which has been doubled back into the sleaving, all of which is cable tired to the cable.

The added bit of live wire is of a greater diameter. Will it be safe to remove this to wire it into the rose?

Here're the strange wires.

That would make life easier. Is it just a case f cutting the cable to a suitable length? As supplied the live wire at the end loops back in to another bit of cable clipped to the side which another live wire comes out of. What's that about?
