    Digital shower spur

Hello, We are in the process of installing a digital shower. It will need a 3 amp switched fused spur to run from. The smart valve and the switched spur will both be in the loft. We currently have an electric shower. The wiring for that runs into the loft, then into a ceiling switch, then...

How get a plumber to plumb my job?

We’re closer to the start than the middle. Tiles have come of with some plaster board in places. We’re only stuck as we can’t get anyone to commit to the next step (smart valve installation and CWST upgrade). If I could get someone in to do it in 2 months that would be great! But I’ve been...

How should I protect them and what with? I’m reticent to dig around them as I don’t want to damage them. If I leave them as they are will the heat cause any problems for my tiles?

How to find switch cable using a multimeter

Hello. I’m replacing the light in my kids bedroom, and putting in a ceiling rose. I have a multimeter, but don’t know how to use it to identify the cable coming from the switch. Would anyone be able to offer any help or advice? It’s a Multimeter from B&Q if that helps. Thanks.

    Repair textured ceiling

Hello, It’s time to decorate the living room. I have a textured ceiling (a stipples paint effect - I have no idea what the technical term is), which has some nasty cracks in it (from when the kids flooded the bathroom). I think I need to remove the dodgy bits, but haven’t got a clue as to how...

    IKEA Pendant lamp ceiling hook

I suppose I could leave the top and connect it as it is. The flex would be much to long then though. I'd have to shorten it from the other end. I unscrewed the bulb holder, but can't see how to remove the wires. Any idea?

    IKEA Pendant lamp ceiling hook

If you look at the cable you'll see the brown live loops back. It's a tight loop, but visible in the picture. It's connected to another length of live of a greater diameter. That's the one sticking up out of the sleaving on the left. I don't know why this is, and I'm doubious about removing...

    IKEA Pendant lamp ceiling hook

The added bit with the greater diameter. The bit picking up in the picture above, which has been added to the live wire which has been doubled back into the sleaving, all of which is cable tired to the cable.

The added bit of live wire is of a greater diameter. Will it be safe to remove this to wire it into the rose?

    IKEA Pendant lamp ceiling hook

That would make life easier. Is it just a case f cutting the cable to a suitable length? As supplied the live wire at the end loops back in to another bit of cable clipped to the side which another live wire comes out of. What's that about?
