Repairing/replacing smashed brick on front of property

On my house, the bricks are supposed to only shown with the rougher surface on the outside so don't know if this is the same for the bricks on your house. You could ask your neighbours (those with the same house style) what type of bricks they are or try a builders merchant? And I would...

Water ingress around inside kitchen window

Have noticed some signs of what looks like water ingress inside my kitchen window. Have been outside, removed the strips around the window and siliconed back in (which hasn't helped). I now notice that there are no gaps in the brick joints above the window (which are present on other windows...

    Pain peeling problem downstairs bathroom

Got a paint-peeling problem in the downstairs bathroom, paint cracked a little while after going on and this has got much worse since I started having to store wet towel in the room (unavoidable at present). Background is: This area used to be tiled I mist coated the walls before painting The...

What's the best paint behind a stove?.

I was advised to use heritage paint on mine, I used Little Greene with no problems. If in doubt you could contact a specialist paint supplier or your stove installer. Hope that helps.

Repointing is it as bad as I fear?

Well, the builder has been around and as feared its an agree to disagree situation. He has offered a refund, but this wouldn't include the cost of the scaffolding, so that leaves us in a bad situation cost-wise. Bearing in mind he was recommended and is used by 2 different people my wife works...

Repointing is it as bad as I fear?

Thanks so much, Woody wish I could do heights and sort this myself. Other than letter writing and trading standards, what other routes are open to me in terms of sorting out poor work like this without paying twice?

Repointing is it as bad as I fear?

Woody thanks for letting me know. It's not so much that the wall is wet I can see patchy areas of damp and dry in the repointed joints. Trying to get the guy back to sort the work properly. Am assuming the entire joint should be raked out down to a level of 10mm, then dust cleaned out. What...

Old style loft hatch insulation in plastic bag?

Would 50mm insulation board be sufficient any thicker it costs a fortune?

Old style loft hatch insulation in plastic bag?

Have read that people often just staple plastic bags full of insulation to old-style loft hatches to insulate them, is this allowed? Wondering if there are any fire rating requirements relating to this I know loft insulation is normally fire rated. Or is there a better way to accomplish this?

Repointing is it as bad as I fear?

Had some repointing started late last year, the top half of the wall only as scaffolding up. Builder supposed to be returning to complete from garage roof but have become concerned about how well the work has been done. I noticed that after rain the repointed portions seem to be wetter in...

Inject DPC rather than Cavity Tray

Posted previously about treating gable end wall with Stormdry or similar to help minimise damage to bricks and ingress into the garage that abuts gable end wall. Water does get in the past roof as there is no cavity tray and difficult to remedy this as have blown-in insulation with no adhesive...

Front garden driveway issues / improve chances success.

Thanks all, how do I ascertain my road classification woody? Our road is a cul-de-sac, so I am assuming it cannot be classed as a "main road". My local planning office talks about main roads (A, B and C roads) reference drop kerbs. What the heck is a C road? When I contact them re this they...

Front garden driveway issues / improve chances success.

I want to put a driveway in our front garden but need guidance. Hope you can shed light on any issues I may have getting permission / what I might do to improve my chances? If I went ahead I would be knocking down a short retaining wall and extending the neighbour's drop kerb to accommodate...

Best product seal brickwork after repointing

Thanks all, will look to buy Stormdry, may as well go for a recognised brand if as woody says the prices for similar are comparable.

Best product seal brickwork after repointing

Having gable end repointed as mortar coming away from the bricks in places. After the rain, this wall seems to stay wet for a long while and it does get most of the driving rain. Notice that even after the repointing water still seem to be quite visible on the wall. Wall is abutted by garage...
