Isolating gas fire - what to expect ?

Cheer guys - just wished some of you lived a bit closer 8) Quite happy with it capped off above floor level - it means if the wife changes her mind we can have another fire there without too much of a problem.

Isolating gas fire - what to expect ?

Not decided on which RGI we're going for yet - working out if we're going to do the fire this year when we get the boiler serviced or wait until next year when we have more funds available (hence wanting to know roughly how long it will take). The pipe is behind the telly / stereo etc which...

Isolating gas fire - what to expect ?

Before I get leapt on, I'm getting my boiler serviced soon but also want to remove my gas fire so will get the Gas Safe engineer to cap it off / isolate it so I can remove and brick up the flue holes. The fire is a nightmare - we lose so much heat from the draught around the flue - I've a...

I need my bedroom kept at 20C whilst im on holiday!!! How??

Thats the way I'd do it. Also make sure its a cheapie type one with a mechanical thermostat rather than a digital one - often when you have a small interruption to the mains supply (i.e. a short power cut) they reset and won't turn back on until you set them again.

    shower enclosure brands

We've just bought a Merlyn "blackbox" brand for very little money compared to some of the similar items on big names. Aqualux seem to have a very good customer service department. I needed a new seal for an aging shower door and it was sent by first class post for just over a fiver !!!

Shower outlet elbow length problems .......

With the wife deciding on some nice 10mm thick tiles (+6mm for adhesive) plus 12.5mm for the aquapanel I find I'm only left with around 10mm of male 1/2" pipe to attach onto when I fit my shower head outlet. When I put the back nut on the whole assembly, I've then got 1mm of thread visible ...

Please help diagnose my bathroom smell!

Is it an electrical shower ? When I first met my wife, she had all kinds of smells in her rented house every time she used the shower. Turned out the landlord had put a higher wattage shower in with the existing wiring and this was causing the smell ............

    Some large tile questions .....

I was joking about the Wickes adhesive by the way ;) I've talked her out of tiling the floor - going to slap down some decent vinyl. I calculated a tile at almost exactly 0.2m2 (they are slightly over 600 x 300) and weighed one on the scales - worked out at just under 19kg/sqm tiles seem...

    Some large tile questions .....

Hi I've done a fair amount of DIY tiling in the past without any problems but the wife has now decided she wants the ensuite decked out in 600mm x 300mm ceramic tiles (10mm thickness). I've done most of the structural work for an enclosed shower - 1200mm x 900 tray in a recess that has...

Quick towel rail valve question .....

Cheers - they would only swap them over with another set of the same type but these seem to seal a lot better (i.e. you can't blow or suck through them when they are off unlike the old ones !)

Quick towel rail valve question .....

Finally got my butt into gear today, drained down the system and soldered up some new pipework for the ensuite. Put in some new pipework for the towel rail my wife appears totally obsessed with but didn't fit the rail itself as I've got some plasterboarding to do before it goes on. I thought...

    Blackhole Exploit Kit (type 1889)

Spynomore sounds like a scam "antivirus" program that makes stuff up to con the user into paying for a version to "remove" the infections. I could be wrong but google it and make up your own mind - chances are you don't have the virus. I've had numerous alerts about the blackhole (not in...

    Blackhole Exploit Kit (type 1889)

....... and just had it again while reading an Ebay message on my Hotmail. I suspect that its something to do with a flagged site that Ebay uses to push their crap and advertising. I could be wrong though ....

    Blackhole Exploit Kit (type 1889)

An ex-girlfriend messaged me last night to say she had this on her screen. I advised her to run malwarebytes. Just had it on my own screen while browsing Ebay (with Facebook open in the background) - I've a strong suspicion it may be a false positive but worth keeping an eye on.

Shower Screen Sealing Strip Advice Please????

You can try putting a small strip of plastic or similar in the bottom of the seal where it clips onto the screen - this will lower it a few millimeters. If the seal is knackered then you can always grab a replacement from the manufacturers or a decent plumb center type place.

British Gas engineer working "on the side" - cover

I assure you they aren't imaginary  The BG engineer has known them for a number of years and is usually the one who comes out every time their boiler needs work doing (they have a BG maintenance contract). If you're thinking I'm talking about my own boiler then wronnnnnngg ! I had...

British Gas engineer working "on the side" - cover

I know its not legitmate and wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, my relative is probably the most stubborn person you're likely to meet and the BG engineer (who has known them a long time) has convinced them that apart from a piece of paper its all legitimate. I wanted everyone elses opinion so...
