    No thermostat?

Just moved into a new house. One storey cottage with oil fired central heating system (nice new Worcester combi(?) boiler in an outbuilding - Greenstar Heatslave II 18/25) but I've only just noticed it doesn't appear to have a thermostat. Each of the radiators has an individual thermostat but...

Replacing multiple barrel locks - keyed alike?

Just moved into a new house with four external upvc doors of different makes and ages but all appear to have the same type of barrel lock. Is it possible/easy to replace all four locks with keyed alike replacements for ease? If so any recommendations?

Fitting a top fix toilet seat

I know you're all on the edge of your seat waiting to know how it went! I ended up ditching the existing hinge set, buying a new one online and it was a doddle to fit! Thanks everyone for your help - I reckon I'd have still been fighting with it today without your info :)

Fitting a top fix toilet seat

If I’m honest I can’t remember. It’s at another house I’m moving into next week. Will check again tomorrow. It’s been bugging me for days!!

Fitting a top fix toilet seat

It was plastic. Quite thick plastic. I had to heat it in the oven and cut it to get it through the hole!! I’m hoping I can get it back, recover the toggles and try again if I can source some replacement washers otherwise it’s a whole new hinge kit I guess.

Fitting a top fix toilet seat

God I hate those diagrams. I saw the thing that’s put through the hole as the plastic washer but now I can see it’s the metal toggle. Sh1t and bugg3r!!! Thanks everyone :)

Are you sure? The picture suggests otherwise. But then the picture also misses out the metal toggle altogether!

Fitting a top fix toilet seat

My God this is the worst experience of my life! I’m trying to fit this: https://www.plumbworld.co.uk/documents/twyford-moda-top-fix-toilet-seat-installation-guide.pdf This bit in particular is a nightmare: I had to trim the plastic washer just to get it through the hole but I just can’t...

What would cause a concrete floor to be wet?

Thanks everyone will do some digging (metaphorically!). I don't think there's any pipes underneath (the central heating pipes go up to the loft). This part of the house is around 250 years old but I'm quite sure the concrete is newer so hope it has a damp proof course. Will dry it out and see...

What would cause a concrete floor to be wet?

Just bought a new (very old!) cottage and noticed the lounge floor is wet in a few spots. The walls all seem dry and it appears to be isolated to about one half of the room. Any ideas what might cause this?

    Green walls!

Just bought a lovely cottage with a nice barn attached. Some of the interior walls are a bit 'green'! Can I just power wash this off? Anything to be aware of? Cheers.

    Removing sockets

Just moved into a new house. These sockets are right in the middle of a wall at head height (the previous owner had a wall mounted tv). I'm never going to need them and want to wallpaper the wall. To remove them do I just turn off the power, remove the sockets, wrap some electrical tape around...

    Tumble dryer tripping fuse box

Just moved into a new house and when I plug the tumble dryer into any of the sockets in the garage it trips the fuse in the fuse box. But if I run an extension lead into the house and plug it in there it works fine. Repair guy said the fuse was set too sensitive? Does this sound right? Is this...
