Just moved into a new house and when I plug the tumble dryer into any of the sockets in the garage it trips the fuse in the fuse box. But if I run an extension lead into the house and plug it in there it works fine.

Repair guy said the fuse was set too sensitive? Does this sound right? Is this something I can resolve? Or should I get an electrician in?

Garage sockets is a 6A device - typically used only for lighting circuits.
A tumble dryer will be 10 to 13 amps, which will overload the 6A device.

It may be possible to change the 6A device to something else, but that depends on the cable size used and various other factors.

Not surprising it trips. The MCB for the garage sockets is a 6 Amp trip.

Get an electrican to check the cables to the garage are suitbale and if so then replace the B6 MCB with higher rating B20 or B32

You have to wonder why the garage sockets are on a 6A breaker. This is one occasion when I'd agree with certain people that maintain that's just wrong. Perhaps it was just cheapskating to the extreme by a DGAS developer
