Just moved into a new house. One storey cottage with oil fired central heating system (nice new Worcester combi(?) boiler in an outbuilding - Greenstar Heatslave II 18/25) but I've only just noticed it doesn't appear to have a thermostat.

Each of the radiators has an individual thermostat but no central one. Is that unusual? Anything to worry about?

This is the main panel:

I was hoping to swap it out for Hive but I'm guessing that's not going to be easy?

Ah yea ‘cos the thermostat is wireless isn’t it? So actually really easy then?!
It is easy enough, just be certain to order the correct one as Ian mentioned. When you remove the Honeywell (Hive would do that job and thermostat job), make sure you keep same setting, eg if gravity.

Just checking boys - why do I need the dual channel? If I have a combo boiler don’t I need the single one?

You weren’t sure if you had a combi, also existing is a dual channel.

what boiler do you actually have ? you have a dual channel controller which is not for a combi, post pics of everything is best

if you want you can keep your existing controller to control the HW and a single channel hive to control the heating, as advised oil combis are not the same as gas combis the way they work , you would need to leave the existing controller set at constantly on for the CH and let the hive over ride it

Grrrr thanks guys but you’ve lost me! I’ll have to get someone in I guess :(
All you need is either:

A dual channel to replace existing programmer or

A single channel to add a thermostat to your existing setup. If you decide on this option, if you have some diy skills, we can assist/guide you through the process.

If you decide on dual channel, you night be able to just swap it on the backplate with minimal (if any alterations).

Is this any clearer?

No need it is very simple really and we are happy to help you along, your easiest bet is a dual channel hive, no wiring just lift the old one off the back plate and put the new hive on takes seconds and a few set up things , nothing hard about it , well apart from dealing with bloody Hive , they can be a nightmare, but you will get that no matter who installs it
