Marks on plastered wall (water wont darken) & strange paint coverage?

I think the ceiling is largely fine & will cover with more coats. Not so sure about these splat marks though. I don't even know what they are... Same marks, just with & without flash. They weren't there after the original plastering job back in 2013/2014 whenever it was so it must've been...

Marks on plastered wall (water wont darken) & strange paint coverage?

A few things i want to find out.... 1) I mist coated the ceiling of the living room today. I went 1:1 paint:water. Dulux Supermatt. I know the tub says 1:3 water:paint but i went 1:1. It still seemed to cover the celing quite well though. Is this normal for a mist coat? I was expecting it to be...

    Lifetime of paint (Dulux Supermatt)

This weekend i'm looking to paint the living room. I've just opened the tub. The paint is a bit firm on top but it's not one solid lump. There's the bits you mentioned which i can get rid of. There's a fair amount of yellow liquid in there too. Is all this normal - just get rid of the bits &...

Water getting in around window. Fix?

Out of interest how would starting afresh mean that the leak may still occur if it's the window seal that's the problem? Surely they would in theory fit a new window properly which should stop it leaking as it does now? Oh & I should ask since its the one my wife is bothered about - what...

Water getting in around window. Fix?

Thanks. I'll try the black silicone approach. Will any old black silicone do (obviously so long as it says exterior) or should I be looking for something specific - specific properties, specific wording on the tube for example? EDIT: I'd have been surprised if it was the black rubber seal...

Water getting in around window. Fix?

Well i had that gap dried out & i'd filled it right in. As to whether it was a good job or not i don't know. It was filled up alright & to the edges too as best as i could do. and the problem still occurred. This was before they inserted the strips of DPC too. When i saw water coming up in...

Water getting in around window. Fix?

I've read that a few times & bear with me as i'm going to risk sounding dim now... So you're saying it's NOT coming in through any section of the exterior wall? It's coming in through some part of the external side of the window - frame, glass, seals, whatever, but NOT the wall? I thought i'd...

Water getting in around window. Fix?

I was going to post back on this thread to ask something a while ago but I forgot. I'll have to do that another time because I want to focus on this for now... We said that when the guys came out to re-do the leaky sections that once that approach had failed, we'd have to have the windows out...

    Tradesman dispute over payment

What the hell, i'll take a stab at it too.... So you thought you were going to pay 1 man for 5 days work @ £130 per day = £650 What you got was 2 men all day on Monday wanting £130 each. They both worked until 1pm on Tuesday (so you could consider this a half day) @ £130 each per day (so that'd...

Rollering new plaster - walls & ceiling? Product question

I'm no pro painter as you have probably already guessed, but i've painted enough in the house (by brush) so far which has turned out to a finish i'm satisfied with. I need to get cracking with the walls & ceiling that has been done, so it's going to be a roller job. With so many different...

    Lifetime of paint (Dulux Supermatt)

Well it's been left out in the shed. We've had frost but nothing too serious. I'll take a look. Thanks.

    Lifetime of paint (Dulux Supermatt)

About 2 years ago we read, through this forum, that this paint was good for 1st application on to new plaster. Story short the tub was opened back then, used a bit but now an entire room & ceiling need doing. Obviously the lid was put back on :) but will this still be OK to use? Just...

Which filler for these plaster cracks?

It's the same job to be honest. I just keep putting things off as i've a lot of other things to take care of & when you only get a Sunday off work.... Anyway, there was 2 different surfaces beforehand. The previous plasterers did it & there were no cracks at all on there. It's just been...

Which filler for these plaster cracks?

The vast majority of the plastering we've had done has been fine. Only 1 or 2 cracks. There is 1 biggie though, where the brick wall meets the old boarded up doorway... As far as i'm aware, i need to open up this crack a little with a stanley knife or small screwdriver or something & then...

Best way to prepare this wall for a plasterer (old plaster plus lath too)?

Obviously taking all the wallpaper off is #1. The plaster had blown underneath the wallpaper, it was very crunchy & then when the paper was taken off & the plaster pulled out, this is pretty much what was left behind. Underneath that rail, the top 'half' appears to be solid wall whereas the...

    Water getting in uPVC door

I really don't know to be honest. I don't think the step gets wet-wet as in water forming on top like beads. It just colours up & gets damp. Just in the event we can't get this sorted (we've had a lot of money going out lately & to start ripping out door frames as well as everything else going...

    Water getting in uPVC door

Little bit of a development perhaps? I've found that it isn't totally down to the rain that is causing the wet on the step on the inside. I meant to update this thread a few weeks ago but one morning i went downstairs to see the internal step was dry & it hadn't been raining. Later on the...

Water getting in around window. Fix?

Just doing a little investigating in to this & i read that your standard DPC roll isn't ideal for fitting around the windows as it's for horizontal usage really. And that the DPC around the windows would/should be insulated. I don't know the proper term for this but at our place we call this...

Water getting in around window. Fix?

They're some good eggs. :) They're going to come out & sort it. The boss was in touch with someone about it. Said that rainwater is getting in through the external skin somewhere (unknown). The 1.5-2.0" cavity had been filled with plasterboard & then the side wall boarded out & skimmed. Tanked...

Water getting in around window. Fix?

My wife was wanting me to ask if it has anything to do with the plaster not being flush. She said as it was boarded against the window beforehand the level would've been straight whereas now it's just plaster & as you work to the bottom it comes further across the frame. I can't see it mattering...
