    Joist hangers interference with flooring

I have a few situations where the tops of joist hangers wrap over a joist and are then fixed with square twists. These will end up being 3mm proud and will cause issues with flooring sheets rocking on them etc. Is it normal to notch the tops of the joists to avoid this, or do I just need a...

Dewalt dcn692 nailer struggles with ring shanks

My framing nailer works brilliantly with regular 90mm 3.2mm nails, or 70mm ringshanks, but leaves 90mm ring shanks 2mm proud. It has a 5ah battery which I've experimented with keeping topped up , but it doesn't really make a difference. Are these nails simply beyond what it's capable of, or...

Using thermalites as hardcore under patio

Thanks - I'll fish out the big bits and throw them in the skip.

Using thermalites as hardcore under patio

During the current build I've accumulated a couple of bulk bags of mortar snots, broken bricks, and other hardcore for future use under a patio. Around 20% of it is chunks of thermalite block. If I leave the thermalite fragments in will the frost turn them to cheese over a few years? Thanks

    Verge overhang - minimum size

I don't like the look of dry verges. However, it's just occurred to me that Redland do a half tile for the Regent, so if I stagger one of those in at each course near the verge then that will let me achieve 50mm cloak overhang without making the soffit depth look unmatched.

    Verge overhang - minimum size

How much shunt can I expect to have on a Marley Mendip or a Redland Grovesbury? They're listed as having a cover width of 298mm and 300mm respectively... is that at max shut (compression) or at some mid-point and they will go 2mm either way?

    Verge overhang - minimum size

Thanks. So even with a 250mm wide soffit, then a 170mm upvc fascia cap that will form a big drip edge on the bottom, this is a concern?

    Verge overhang - minimum size

I'm building an extension with a gable wall at each end. My double pantile roof tiles run uninterrupted from one gable end to the other, so my roof has to be a multiple of these sizes. Due to the width of the tiles and my preferred depth of soffit overhang, I'm trying to minimise how much the...

    Block cutting with reciprocating saw

Thanks both. I'm at the point where I need to get the gable wall up and steel ridge in place so that I know exactly where the ladder will land. I have a rough idea and the outline is mocked up with battens, but it's going to end up 20mm either way. I'm building as little of the wall as...

    Block cutting with reciprocating saw

Are there any diamond blades for a recip saw capable of cutting blocks?. I Only need to trim a few for gable ladder noggin purposes but don't want to use a 9 inch cutter at height. The blocks are 3.5 fibolites. Thanks

    Can my Neighbour do this

I'm not sure I fully get it, but have you been trespassing for the last 20 years? Or another way, Why did your builder put an extension in so close to your boundary?

Mixing types of block in inner wall

Cheers. It's an internal wall so u values don't really matter, so I was wondering more about the expansion side of things. How different can it be to the diffeeing expansion rate of the mortar between the blocks anyway?

Mixing types of block in inner wall

My current extension is being built with 3.5N themalites inner skin and 3.5N fibolites outer skin. I also have an internal wall that's within the thermal envelope on bother sides. Due to a c*ck up in the quantity surveying, I'm 70 thermalites short and 70 fibolites long. Am I okay to mix the...

    Moving an RSJ 660kg

I've found scaff poles rolling on scaff boards works well, but I've never gone beyond 200kg. The lack of friction in that setup means you really need to have a plan for stopping it if there are any slopes on route.

What kind of door did you go for? I need to buy a couple and can't decide. Yours looks like a pair of steel side hung?
