    Pipe Bending

All Further to a previous post, I need to run a 22mm pipe from my cellar to my bathroom with a very twisty route. I originally planned on using plastic pipe and fittings but have been reading about 90 deg elbows reducing flow so am thinking about using copper pipe and hiring a stand mounted...

    Sealing brickwork before plastering

All As part of a drylining/insulation project I had to cut back some of the plaster and now need to patch it up (i'm doing this as I need to plaster behind the radiator and want to fix to solid plaster rather than board). Do I need to seal the exposed brickwork first before patch...

    Concealed plumbing

kirkgas Thanks. Would I be able to fit battens top and bottom but then screw fix the skirting to the battens and use cover caps to keep it accessible? Thanks Alan

    Concealed plumbing

All I'm having a new boiler installed (by a pro) and running a new 22mm pipe to feed the bathroom installed (by me). I understand that under the applicable regs the pipework needs to accessible. What is termed accessible? I planned to build out the skirting slightly and install the pipework...

    Plastering under skirting board

Tried this in the joinery forum but no response. Any help much appreciated. All. As part of a re-plastering/dry lining job in one bedroom, I had to remove a length of skirting board which was wall fixed on wedges packed into the mortar joins. 1. In replacing the skirting boards will...

    Plumbing fittings

All further to a previous post, we now have a new water pipe in to replace an old lead pipe and I now need to run a 22mm pipe up to the bathroom which I'll be doing in polypipe. As part of the work I need a 45 degree bend, but can't seem to find one. Does anyone know of one? Also, does...

    Replacing skirting boards

All. As part of a re-plastering/dry lining job in one bedroom, I had to remove a length of skirting board which was wall fixed on wedges packed into the mortar joins. 1. In replacing the skirting boards will it be easiest to fix back as originally done (the wedges broke when being removed...

    Ring main sockets

All We have a single ring main serving upstairs and down in our small terrace. Whilst doing some other works I want to change out a couple of single sockets for doubles. Is there a limit to the number of times I can do this? Is there a limit on the total number of sockets? I have some...

    Lead pipe replacement

Thanks doitall. Do I need pipe inserts if using a copper pipe on the internal side of the the coupler? I always thought copper could be put straight into pushfit fittings, which I think is essentially what this is.

    Lead pipe replacement

Folks. When we get the new pipe laid, it's to be in 25mm MDPE. When I change out the internal cold to 22mm I'll obviously need an adaptor - would the following suffice? http://www.screwfix.com/prods/48903/Plumbing/Water-Pipe-and-Fittings/JG-Speedfit-MDPE-Copper-Adaptor-25-x-22mm# Thanks again.

    Lead pipe replacement

Further to the kind replies above I've been in contact again with plumbers and United Utilities etc. Plumber quoted £460 to do the pipework and dig the trench or £180 to just do the pipework. Time to dust off the spade methinks! When I contacted United Utilities today we were accepted...

    Consumer Unit Upgrade

All Yet another little project for the house! I currently have an old fashioned fuse board. It's an old wylex unit and I'd like to have this replaced with a new consumer unit. Prior to asking the electrician to come round and price this for me I'd like to be sure of the full scope of what...

    Lead pipe replacement

Thanks for all the replies. powell30 and gavinda - I'm now thinking about replacing the cold supply pipe in 22mm. Is this generally considered a sensible idea? it'd be a fairly easy run, except at the other side of the bath, but if I can get 22mm to the shower and bath, the extra flow would...

    Lead pipe replacement

Folks. Sorry should have been a bit clearer. The UU stuff is free for the connection to the main etc, but we have to get our own plumber in to connect our house to the main. Apparently UU don't want to touch anything in your demise. The £500-600 is for the plumbers work.

    Lead pipe replacement

After reporting a poor water supply United Utilities have been round and think that we're still on the old lead water supply pipe and are shared with the neighbours. The long term solution being to put in a new direct plastic feed from the main. Appreciate you're going in blind but anyone an...

    Burglar alarms and pipework

All Asked this on the plumbing forum and, quite rightly, someone suggested the electrical forum instead. Assistance appreciated. I need to move a radiator to a different wall in the livingroom at the weekend and need to alter the pipes. The new route for the pipe (in the cellar) takes it...

Thanks folks. 25mm is perfectly do-able but as suggested, will double check in the electrical forums.

    Radiator pipe

Assistance appreciated. I need to move a radiator to a different wall in the livingroom at the weekend and need to alter the pipes. The new route for the pipe (in the cellar) takes it toward the alarm box. What's the minimum distance the pipework needs to be from the box? For clarification...
