    switching question

I have 2 extractor fans in the bathroom. I'm looking for 1 switch to operate 1 fan. I'm looking for 1 switch to operate both fans. These are typical permanant live/neutral with a switching live connection - timed fans! If it were DC I'd be thinking diodes but with AC what's done?

    Pumping hot water....

Hey! Furry friend of mine wants to pump his hot water. He organised the pump between the cylinder and the top outlet. I pointed out that the outlet was acting as an overflow/pressure relief into the header tank in the loft - effectily the highest point hot water could go in the pipe. If...

    Horizontal? Flow-sensor sought....

I don't think I can use a pressure sensor as, in a gravity fed system, the pressure will be standard I guess? Though it will fluctuate when water is drawn, I don't think it will be enough! I think I need a sprung magentic plunger & reed switch construction........

    Horizontal? Flow-sensor sought....

I'm looking for a flow sensor switch to operate when water flows. I'm kinda thinking a combi boiler spare part will do the job, only which boiler's spare? Ideally.... fitting 22mm, horizontal operation or downflow [sprung?], 240v on/off as opposed to flow rate feeding a circuit board...

    New Jet for Camray II

Hey! I know, I know, I should really have a dude come in and do this...... But, I'm on zero income so I need to DIY. I'm getting through burning oil like crazy & that sweet smell from the flue is suggesting to me that the jet needs replacing - it's over 3 years old & probably well in...

Timing the use of a single radiator....

Hmmm! Food for thought there.... In response to a question.... It seems to be plumbed in directly from the boiler pipework & not the domestic hot water - not easy to tell from the spaghetti in the boiler room. The effect is, you turn it on 24/7 and it gets hot. It may circulate by...

Timing the use of a single radiator....

The bathroom radiator is plumbed in seperately from the rest of the radiators in the house. I have a couple of lodgers & 1 is inclined to warm up the bathroom before a bath [ or whatever ] and they leave the radiator on when they leave. This obviously costs me big bucks in having to heat...

Matt / gloss finished tiles & hard water

Hey! I like the look of some matt wall tiles but live in a hard water area. Does anyone have any comment regarding calcuim deposits as the water dries in a shower? Do they allow the water to run off as well as gloss tiles or will they grip it, thereby leaving calcium deposits all down the...

    Soilpipe - air addmittance required?

Hmmm! Gonna have to rethink this. I assume any vent has to be upwards above the roof? Couldn't take it through the wall??

    Soilpipe - air addmittance required?

I'm about to revamp the bathroom. I have a loo and the basin/bath/shower all entering a soilpipe which then has an upward dog-leg to enable it to vent through the ceiling/roof to the outside. Except maybe for the dog-leg, pretty standard. I want to remove that vent and put in an Air...

Connecting basin waste to pan connector

Hey! I'm aware that there are pan connectors with a boss [ or whatever it's called ] to enable a basin waste to connect. I'm intending to use a bottletrap under the sink, for easy cleaning, but will I need some sort of air admittance valve to prevent the 'trapped' water from being sucked...

    Acentric / cam adjustable fittings

I have some dodgy render/walls to affix stuff to. When drilling, I find the holes wander around large chips of grit etc. I remember some sort of acentric fittings to enable fine adjustment to level stuff. Any ideas of what they are called and where they can be obtained? Thank you!

WBP Ply or Plasterboard or ?

Hey Folks! I'm about to install a shower - this requires a studwall. Is it preferred to use WBP ply, plasterboard, or something else? In which case, any preferred thickness or finish/type/spec? I kinda assume [nominal] 2 x 3" will be chunky enough for the studs? IS 18mm WBP ply thick...
