1 set of LED's not working

Yes, I normally take a photo before I start if I need to know how it goes back together and I would absolutely always isolate the power and then test before touch.

1 set of LED's not working

Thanks. I will try that. I had thought about bypassing the dimmer but I couldn't confidently figure out the treatment of the 2 way wiring in the dimmer as you've described.

    Possible Asbestos?

Because the OP wanted to know if was Asbestos. Test would confirm this. If it were me I would bag it and bin it....... but that doesn't answer the OP's question.

1 set of LED's not working

Thanks Guys. I will swap out the dimmer tomorrow to see if that changes anything. Fully appreciate the that live working isn't that clever - not something I intend to make a habit off.

    Possible Asbestos?

You can find companies online that will test this for you if you pop it in several bags and post it off. The fee is fairly small.

1 set of LED's not working

I haven't yet managed to take a fitting out of the ceiling......... Any tips for getting them out with minimal damage appreciated. Yes I have a Multimeter, yes can confirm 240v across the switches. Completely agree on the tester pens....... I use with extreme caution. Lights have been...

1 set of LED's not working

Thanks Bernard, that had crossed my mind, I will give it a go. Terry, the flex is inside the the fitting, when you un-screw/pop out the LED lamp, the lamp hangs on the flex. You can do this without removing the rest of the fitting from the ceiling. I'll try a photo.....

Morning All, Can anybody advise on the this. I have 1 set of 6no 240v LED spots that are not working. The lamps are 2 way switched by switches at different sides of our dinning area (1 of these is a dimmer, Varilight, trailing edge). Everything else on that circuit is working OK. I...

Do I need to get this checked with an engineer....?

Woah....... No steel. The Chimney itself will be untouched. It's only the internal dividing wall between the chimney and the gable wall that I'm looking at. I should try and post a picture for this.

Do I need to get this checked with an engineer....?

Thanks Ronnny, I'll measure the wall. I suspect it is just shy of 9m. The chimney itself will remain but if i knock thorough at FF then it will only act as a buttress as the GF height.

Do I need to get this checked with an engineer....?

Hi I have a fairy standard construction 1980's semi detached house. Block built with some some internal walls being lightweight blocks, others being stud-work. On the gable end side of the property (ie not the bit attached to the neighbors) we have a front bedroom and a back bedroom. They...

Rendering the inside of the fireplace

Thanks Roy. I had thought about this and on measuring accurately this morning it looks like I need to reduce the opening by as much as 150mm i.e. 75 mm each side. Would something like this do the job? http://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Medium-Density-Block-7-3N-100mm/p/113504 What mix would I...

    Best mechanical fixings?

I've used these before to fix a piece of foil backed board to a wall. They seemed to work well in brick/block but less so in wall made from stone/rubble etc. (Victorian House).. Would work if you went direct to the wall I guess but wouldn't work if you dabbed as they would just punch through...

Flood risk assesment for new windows?

I appreciate there are several references to Article 1(5) land but the point still remains that your permitted development rights are not automatically reduced because you live in a conservation area. Yes, permitted development does distinguish between Article 1(5) land and non Article 1(5), of...
