    Central Heating Blowing Fuses

Sorry Guys - back again! Changed the 3port valve, bled radiators and switched on. Problem is the boiler fires up for only a few seconds and then goes back to pilot. The pump is running but it seems to be making a funny noise - certainly louder then before. When I call for C/H, H/W or...

    Central Heating Blowing Fuses

Sorry to bring this up again. I checked all the connections as advised and managed to get a fraction of a turn on one or two of them. There was also no sign of any leaks. Everything has been okay for the last 4 weeks but this morning the g/f clicked the button on the timer to bring the c/h...

    Central Heating Blowing Fuses

Do you mean where the cable goes into the boiler? Ok I'll try and have a look tonight and make sure any connections are tight and the cable is not damaged. Thanks for your help.

Oooppsss - should have read the instructions

£17.99 for 15 kg. Not cheap this wall tiling is it  Having said that we found a box of tiles in the garage left over from when a previous owner tiled the bathroom. Just got enough if I dont break too many putting them up 8)

Oooppsss - should have read the instructions

I'm about to tile the toilet - the existing walls were painted with a kitchen and bathroom type paint and parts of this were pealing off - straight through to the the bare plaster. In other places the paint was stuck firmly but - because of its shiney finish - I decided it should all come off...

    Downlighters (again!)

The G/F has bought a set of three mains voltage halogen downlights to replace the existing low voltage downlights in the lounge. The lights will be connected to the existing junction box in the ceiling void (obviously following the removal of the old transformer). There are three lights -...

    Installing Mains Voltage Halogen Downlights

Hi There, The G/F has bought a set of three mains voltage halogen downlights to replace the existing low voltage downlights in the lounge. The lights will be connected to the existing junction box in the ceiling void (obviously following the removal of the old transformer). There are...

    strength of 4x4

600kg is only the weight of say 7 people and the tank weight will be negligible. Think of a party New Years Eve - loads of people jumping up and down (well if they dance like the people I know  ). Shouldn't cause any probs.

    strength of 4x4

Think I understand what you mean  If the tank is over the walls the weak point will be the base of the tank - not the beams. I would imagine that one would be plenty although two (one each side)would be safer (no wobble) and more asthetically pleasing. Just spread the weight as...

    Wooden Blinds

Ideally cut an equal bit of both sides - takes twice as long but ensures the blind looks "right" when it is hung. I did a full length blind (around 40 slats) this way with a hand saw. Took ages but I am pleased with the result. You may need to give the cut edges a quick sand after they...

    Correct runner/fixing for integrated fridge

There are two types of integrated fridges and freezers - built in and built under. Built in are installed into a 600mm cabinet although this means they have less capacity - not sure who sells these now. Built under are free standing but designed to have a cupboard door fitted to them - these...

    Disconnecting Sink From Mains Supply

Disagree. If you are like me then turning water off completely is something you only want to do once. If you fit isolating valves to hot and cold then you can connect new sink to these - and they are always there when you need to replace a tap washer. Cost a couple of quid from the sheds.

    casting concrete columns

I was thinking of MWG but there is no reason why scaffold shouldn't be used. Adding holes is a good idea  - I didn't think of that. It should be possible to secure the rebar at the top and bottom so that this provides all the support and the concrete is just decorative. This should...

    casting concrete columns

Hi Hazel, The problem with this is that moving from 4" to 6" dia pipe will double the weight of the column (and hence the weight of concrete required). Just a thought - how about using a steel pipe as the rebar. A pipe, say 3/4" or 1", should give a lot of resistance to bending and it...

    Varnishing Doors

A couple of months ago we (that is I :) ) varnished our internal doors. SWMBO chose the colour - a dark oak - and the only varnish we could get in this colour was Q+B own brand. It was a solvent based varnish (very strong smell :( and took ages to dry). However it said it was extremely tough...
