PAT / ITEE Testing. IEC lead fuses

The C13 IEC is rated at 10A. If the cable was 0.75mm I would put a 5A fuse in the plug, if the cable was 1.00mm I would put a 10A in if I had one, or a 5A. It’s very unlikely any equipment that has a C13 fitted to it would draw anywhere near 5A, the only issue would be if the equipment had a...

PAT / ITEE Testing. IEC lead fuses

Ideally should have a 5A in, but very common for IEC leads to have a 13A in the plug. In reality very unlikely to become overloaded in an office environment but possible. It's great your checking the fuse though, 99% would not.

Solar Panel Isolation / Short Protection

Interesting, so if you were to short out the live/neutral directly from a panel nothing too exciting would happen? I know very little about solar installations, or what voltage/current they produce typically. Not sure if it makes a difference but I'm talking about one that might be installed...

Solar Panel Isolation / Short Protection

In a typical solar panel installation, where would you expect find the first instance of short circuit protection for the panel? Is there normally something on the panels themselves or would the first point be at/near the inverter?

Circuit tripping causing damage to IT equiptment

The HDMI is about 7m long, and the TV/computer are in different sockets (on the same circuit). The only other thing plugged into the TV is an ethernet cable. There is also another PC monitor connected to the PC which has been unaffected on both occasions. The TV is being replaced anyway as the...

Circuit tripping causing damage to IT equiptment

Hi all, thanks for your replies To provide more info, the TV is a large commercial one in an office setting, and does have an earth connection via the IEC connector. It is also connected to the data network via the ethernet cable, and then to the computer via the HDMI cable. It didn't occur to...

Circuit tripping causing damage to IT equiptment

Here's an odd one... A year or so a room which has its own ring final on a 32A RCBO, tripped out due to a live-earth fault on a damaged extension lead. After resetting the RCBO the computer in the room would not power on, and the HDMI input on the TV it was plugged into stopped working (TV...

Recommendations for a door entry system?

Mag lock entry systems are usually connected to the fire alarm via a relay so the door releases allowing easy escape. It seems unlikely an intruder would use that as an opportunity to get in as everyone would be going the other way, they'd have to be in the right place at the right time...

outside junction box for flat twin and earth

Although twin & earth is not ideal externally, if it is under the soffit and out of the sunlight its unlikely to cause an issue in practice. You can get glands designed for flat twin and earth cable. Use some flexible cable between the JB & the fixture such as hituff...

About Installing Electric Shower Please Help!

No, you can't. The cable is not large enough to supply the shower, you will need to get the electrician to install a new circuit, and advisably do a PIR looking at that 'round gadget' wiring (its a jb btw).

    Solid State Relays Not Working!

Depends, its for spot light sequencing for a show. So like 3 lights sequencing 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 depending on the music really. It's not a permanent thing, just for the one time. Thanks

    Solid State Relays Not Working!

Oh dear :( Do you know an alternative component that will do the same thing but switch a voltage of around 10V? I don't really want to use a normal relay if I can help it because there going to be turned on and off quite quickly... Thanks :)

    Solid State Relays Not Working!

Evening All I have 3 solid state relays that I used a couple of years ago for a lighting project to switch 240V lights on using 24V control. They have been in the shed since then, but I have just set them up with some some 12V lights, using the same 24V transformer & two of them don't...
