Custom flushpipe for high level cistern?

It's not directly above it, no. I would like to position it to maximise the space. I just spoke to a friend and he's happy to knock up custom fittings to convert to 32mm waste, so I can use solvent weld joints to get the route. Just wondering if there's a more standard solution.

Custom flushpipe for high level cistern?

Hi everyone, If the high level cistern is in a position away from the toilet pan then some custom pipework is needed between the cistern and the toilet pan. Is this possible? I can only find preshaped flushpipes. I could knock up some adaptors on a lathe to convert the flushpipe to waste pipe...

    Understairs toilet questions

Hugh, your tip that the supposed rain drain is in fact connected to the sewer, as you know turned out correct. I now can fit the toilet without a macerator, and with a very simple and short route for the waste. BIG THANKS !!! PS Local plumbers merchant had a 46cm projection pan as well! Now...

Can I place sand under grass?

Thanks for all the advice. It is sharp sand. This does seem the quickest/easiest solution, to put turf on it. Blightymam, does this also apply if there's turf on top of the sand? If it does then I'll have to try to mix it up though that's a lot more work and negates the desired "no settlement"...

What type of wood for fascia?

Hi Ree! I'm sure I did thank somewhere, and if I didn't in some posts I am VERY grateful, the advice has been really good and everyone has been very helpful and polite, it's a very friendly forum. It's give and take, I know, but my skills and main interests are not in DIY. But for example I do...

Can I place sand under grass?

My garden is really unlevel, and it's bare ground. When the garage foundations were dug the left over soil was used to level the garden so it no longer sloped from left to right (a retaining wall was built on one side to enable this). The soil has now settled and left uneven areas, varying by...

What type of wood for fascia?

Hi what sort of wood do I use for the fascias? It's to go above a bay window. When the builder did my extension he used treated wood, but it was rough sawn and now god knows how I will finish it off. Whereas not sure if planed wood is ok exterior? If I go for plastic can it be painted to match...

    Understairs toilet questions

Hugh you were right about the drain. The rain water drain goes back to the same manhole as the upstairs toilet, the same manhole that Thames water said is for foul water. Thames water identified a second manhole by the front garden which is for rainwater. When I have time I will check if ANY of...

    Understairs toilet questions

Hugh, I think I can connect to the foul water manhole. It's just work! The distance and route is not difficult.

    Understairs toilet questions

Oki, I've done far more difficult tasks, it's just a question of putting in the time now. We're doing the kitchen now, so I will need to lay the 4" before the kitchen floor goes down. The manhole is under the kitchen, it was built over when the extension was done in the 70's.

    Understairs toilet questions

Thanks Hugh. The rainwater drain has some sort of traps, so would need a lot of dye to get past that. Also Thames water identified two manholes, one for rainwater and one for foul. I asked Thames water if some houses really do have combined drains, they said yes, some princial towns like...

    Understairs toilet questions

I spoke to Thames water, the drains are separate! So my house, and some of my neighbours have their kitchens dumping water into the rainwater drain :/ I will have this fixed of course.

    Understairs toilet questions

1930's property. I stand corrected, not all the houses visibly use one drain for foul and rain water, but doesn't mean they don't, just I can't see! I will check with Thames water.

Also, any word on whether the waste needs to be accessible?

    Understairs toilet questions

Ok noted. There's another drain very close, it takes the rainwater and the water from the kitchen sink, washing machine etc. I'm guessing this is something previously illegally done? Or did some houses have combined rainwater/sewage drain? Will it be in my house deeds or do I ask Thames water...

    Understairs toilet questions

Hey! Are there any specially made small loos that have a compact form especially for tight spaces? Also, with the macerator, how complex can the route of the outlet to the sewer be? And does it need to be accessible? Does a hatch to get into the under floor space (foundations) count as...

Heat recovery, single room vs all house

I wouldn't call the house stuffy, 1930s terraced house and each room has a vent in the bricks. I just thought this would be a good way to get fresh air without loosing heat. My girlfriend likes to have the heating on full blast AND the windows open, and my lodgers repeatedly leave windows open...

Heat recovery, single room vs all house

I've been pondering about these heat recovery systems which vent the room while not letting heat out. My bro had one and said it worked really well, and they claim 75% efficiency (is that even realistic?). It's a three bedroom 1930s suburban terraced house. What I'm trying to figure out is...

One of my radiators has pipe linking the two valves?

Thermostatic valves fitted. So this is to help balance the system?
