Thanks Daz. This will be my thankless task tomorrow. Hopefully I can get the stuff locally otherwise postage is going to sting me!

    Lino over quarry tiles

Hi there My rental property’s previous owner has screedEd over the 1930s quarry tiles in my kitchen. I’ve laid Lino and the screed has ‘blown’. Presumably no damp course. I’m considering scraping off the blown screed, painting on a DPM and rescreeding with self levelling compound. Does this...

    Garage extra socket

Would 2 cables, each feeding a separate socket not be classed as two radials and therefore not okay. This is the context in which I have been not advised to have two cables in one MCB. Sorry if I haven’t explained this clearly. Regards Rob

    Garage extra socket

Thanks for your input everyone. I did consider that an FSU was only doing the same job as the mcb. I’ve been advised 2 cables in one mcb is not best practice so will go from consumer unit to a new socket next to the consumer unit, then there is enough cable to go from the new socket to the...

    Garage extra socket

Hi there Yesterday I installed an electric garage door which I am currently running from an extension lead. My garage has a small consumer unit with no spare mcbs. From the consumer unit are 1 double socket on a 16amp mcb and 2x 6amp mcbs running internal and external lights. I now need to...

    Washer and dishwasher

I’m looking to simplify the miles of copper pipe under my kitchen sink - year’s worth of people tadging bits on. My question is this - I want to bring one cold feed up to my cold tap and put 2 tees (appliance valves) on that feed inside the cupboard under the sink: one for the washing machine...

    Wireless thermostat

Just to clarify, the thermostat has hardwire terminals as well as batteries. So it is designed to be hard wired.

    Wireless thermostat

Hi everyone My house has a wireless thermostat to control the boiler. All works fine....until the batteries run out. I want to hard wire the unit but can anyone advise me on whether a fused spur would be a suitable solution with a 3amp fuse? Thanks in advance

    Duravit Vanity Unit + Basin...

How about using kitchen wall units. I've done my bathroom and downstairs cloak room using them. This is a much cheaper option and you get far more choice in colours and finishes.

Can I screw to chalk wall?

The answer I found is yes. Madonary bit and rawl plugs very successful.

    Side gate

Cheers, I'd agree with that comment. That was an oversight; I took the slab up when setting the posts, measured up and forgot the slab was going back down, thus lifting the gate 2 inches. Probably doesn't look as bad in the flesh. Not bad for a primary teacher though!

    Side gate

I made it and hung it. Maybe I misunderstood this forum, I thought it was just a place to share diy projects.

Using a blanking plate to indicate safe zone

I don't think a socket on the lighting circuit would be advisable. Stick a blanking plate on it and hang a picture over it

Can I screw to chalk wall?

I've concreted a 3x3 timber post into the ground next to a chalk wall to use as a gate post. The gate is 1000mm x 2000mm ; I'm worried that once I hang the gate the post will flex. I want to use a galvanised bracket to brace the post against the chalk wall. Can I drill the chalk and plug it...

    Door bell transformer

Hi everyone I'm just replacing my door bell chime which is currently supplied with a 12v transformer. However when I put my multimeter on it, it actually reads 15v. The new chime states max 12volts. Is this low voltage difference permissible or is this a problem? I'm guessing most people would...
