    air source heat pumps

Hi. I was thinking about multisplit units actually....I have a ground floor flat with hall, lounge, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. I'm not sure how I'd heat it all (about 46m2 floor area) with just one unit without splitting it into several indoor ones? I suppose I could install just one...

    chasing cables

There must be an earth connection from the consumer unit's earth to the incoming mains water pipe (Main eqipotential bonding conductor). This should be 10mm². It should already be in place. Maybe that was what he was talking about?? If you have run a 10mm² conductor then you should connect it...

    chasing cables

Hi. I thought you are supposed to earth kitchen sinks for safety (and possibly to meet building regs?). My electrician who came and removed some old storage heater wiring for me said I should leave the kitchen sink earthed (I was about to rip out the wiring). The sink is earthed all the way back...

    chasing cables

Hi. I have an earth cable that I've made a vertical chase for in my kitchen (to earth the sink). Does this need to be run in some kind of conduit according to regs? It's not in a safe zone (above a socket or outlet) because it's just an earth cable. Also what is the normal method or covering the...

    air source heat pumps

Hi. I'm considering one of these as a long term heating solution (our estate has no gas and storage heaters are not for me). Was thinking maybe something like this:- http://www.heatart.co.uk/heat-pumps/worcester-greensource-6kw-air-air-heat-pump.html Has anyone used something similar to...

    hall

Hi. I recently got my own place, and prior to actually moving in had to get someone in to rip the ceiling plasterboard out (asbestos). I've had to redo the studwork in the hall because the old stuff was flapping around (badly nailed in to hollow concrete blocks. Pics of what I've done attached...

    thistle bond-it vs blue grit?

Nope, it's just the ceilings! Sorry should have made that clear. Plasterboard will already be up (once I finish the next bit), and I'll prime the MR board - all he has to do is skim 3 ceilings in med sized rooms, 1 days work he reckons.

    thistle bond-it vs blue grit?

Thanks, think I'll go with the blue grit and make sure I do a couple of mist coats on the new plaster once it's up to make sure it's sealed. Had the plasterer round and he's quoted me £180 for doing my bathroom, kitchen, main hall and one small cupboard. Seems pretty reasonable to me and I've...

    thistle bond-it vs blue grit?

Yes 5L for £20....which is better than paying £50 when I only need about 3L as long as it's up to spec. Only reason I went with MR is because of point 4 here, which is maybe a bit misleading?:- http://www.british-gypsum.com/products/plasterboard___accessories/10_things_you_should_know.aspx...

    thistle bond-it vs blue grit?

Hi. I have a load of MR plasterboard on my ceilings to prep before I get the plasterer to skim it. Thistle bond it only comes in 10L tubs at around £50....I only need about 2 or 3L max. Febond Blue Grit I can find for about £20 inc delivery. Has anyone used Blue Grit? Is it up to the job? The...

    taping joints

Hi. I've put up MR plasterboard on my ceiling (kitchen/bathroom). Before it can be plastered I need to apply a coat of Thistle Bond It. I'm thinking I can save some cash by doing this bit myself instead of paying a plasterer to do it, but my question is what to do about the joints? Do I apply...

    insulating around soil vent pipe?

Great, thanks, What's one of those then? Now I can stuff in lots of insulation so I don't lose heat to my neighbour. It is completely the opposite side of the house to the toilet, so makes sense it's not a soil vent pipe.

    insulating around soil vent pipe?

Can guarantee it's not a gas pipe as the whole estate is not connected to gas (all on economy 7 etc). The building is purpose built flats, I'm on the ground floor, the pipe vents to outside (via sticking through the tiled roof). I'm pretty sure it's a vent pipe of some sort as with no gas pipes...

    Thistle bond it/vapour barrier paint

Hi. I've just put up Gyproc Moisture resistant on my kitchen/bathroom ceilings. Plan is to use Thistle bond it (as recommended by British Gypsum who make the boards) and then plaster skim and prime/paint. My question is does anyone know the perm rating of Thistle bond it (is it a good vapour...

    insulating around soil vent pipe?

Hi. I have what I presume to be a soil vent pipe in the corner of my kitchen ('bout 40mm diameter, metal (got a nice ring to it!), runs from under my floor up through my ceiling, the flat above and vents outside the tiling on the roof). I'm just been putting new plasterboard up on the ceiling...

    drilling into concrete ceiling joists

Hi. I'm in the process of putting up plasterboard ceilings by screwing onto wooden battens that have been (badly) nailed into the concrete joists of the ceilings in my flat. Flat is ground floor and the ceiling (or floor of the flat above) appears to be block and beam. The place was built in...

    plasterboarding my bathroom

Thanks for help guys. Things are progressing...today I finished strengthening the timber framing (this is called studwork?) using corner braces (the timbers going across the room weren't connected to the ones going the length of the room, they are now though. I've also put a few corner braces in...

    plasterboarding my bathroom

Hi. I'm in the process of putting up new plasterboard (just moved into my first place and old stuff needed ripping out as it contained asbestos). For my bathroom I basically have two options to cover the ceiling. Dimensions of the bathroom are ca 8'3" x 5'1". I have bought Gyproc moisture...
