Sharing cost of new fence with neighbour

Yeah. It did seem a bit odd the neighbour offered to split the cost that quickly. When it comes time to do the fence I think I'll pay it all my side to ensure it's done to how I want/secure in the knowledge it's all as expected. Sure there isn't any ulterior motive, but better safe than sorry!

Sharing cost of new fence with neighbour

I do have insurance, yeah! Just thinking of how splitting the cost works for maintenance, if the fence is damaged due to wind, or if the wall is damaged his side - who foots the bill, etc in those scenarios.

Sharing cost of new fence with neighbour

So my neighbour came round today and said the fence is loose. He mentioned it's my fence line, which sounds right (I'm a new owner, corner plot still trying to work out which fence is mine, but this one definitely is) The ground is a lot higher on my side of the fence - ideally we'd need a...

How to identify roof gutter drain type

Thanks for the suggestion. Will give it a go, but not sure if the drain pipe connects via a Y piece pipe that's not accessible after the inspection cover.

How to identify roof gutter drain type

So, I've got two blocked drains that are fed by gutter downpipes. Both are chick full of dirt and tree roots, I can't easily remove due to the drains having a ubend pipe in them. Ideally I need to dig them up and replace with modern plastic - but not yet sure if they connect to the mains sewer...

Window lintel and loose bricks above window

Property is 1950's built and dormer conversion was done later, I should add.

Window lintel and loose bricks above window

I'm having new windows fitted and a lot of the external bricks above the window are loose and can be moved by hand. I can't see what they're holding up as I need to remove the soffits to access them. I spoke to the window fitter and he said they'd support the bricks when removing the window...

When is it best to replace windows

Follow up questions, how do you easily measure glass thickness? Hard to tell given the frame but I think it's thinner than 24mm. Temperature guage doesn't show too much heat loss between the surrounding wall and glass pane when heating is off, only a few degrees. Few cold spots around edges so...

When is it best to replace windows

Thanks all. Will check with a feature and temp guage then weigh it up. Feels fairly warm with curtains shut so yeah, might hold off for a few more years.

When is it best to replace windows

Hello! Recently bought a property with older double glazing, think it's marked 88 as year of manufacture. It's obviously old so won't be that efficient, but despite this the bungalow keeps its heat fairly well and i shut some heavier curtains overnight. No blown panels, but the window frames...

Kitchen plinth heaters - how much space do they need for airflow

I did think that too! Did some testing by blocking the air vents at the front with tissue then lifting the shelf until the air flow no longer went via the vents. Maybe it isn't an extra hole needed, but a greater cavity for the air inside to circulate?

Kitchen plinth heaters - how much space do they need for airflow

Thanks for the insight! So ideally I need to allow more air into the space to get a better airflow out of the fan?

Kitchen plinth heaters - how much space do they need for airflow

It could be, yeah. I just assumed as the sound changed to a higher pitch it was somehow impacting the airflow of the fan. I'll check by waving a tissue in front and see if it moves more or less.

Kitchen plinth heaters - how much space do they need for airflow

Recently redid my heating and had a plumbed in plinth heater fitted in my kitchen. Due to plumbing limitations, it's inside the bottom of a cupboard instead of under a kitchen cupboard. There's about 4cm gap between the top of the fan and the shelf above it. I notice if I lift the shelf while...

Identifying matte contract paint vs "normal" matte paint

Recently found out the white Matt paint I bought from Wickes is "contract" paint which basically means when it's dry you get a constant chalky residue on your hands or clothes if you touch the surface. Not ideal at all! It seems Dulux and the likes don't do this, but how do I know from the tin...

Wallpaper painting primer - 123 stuff, what does it do?

I see this recommended a lot for priming vinyl wallpaper before painting. Just wondering if it should be used every time or just for specific scenarios? I've seen vinyl wallpaper take Matt paint okay, just wondered what does the primer do that makes it better, or is it just a gimmick to sell...

    TRV and lockshield valves

It is a condensing boiler. Not checked gas consumption not really been bothered by that, just wanted to get the most heat out I could without turning up the boiler temp.

    TRV and lockshield valves

Hey all! So I gave this a go today. Most my radiators show a drop of about 6 degrees between flow in and flow out. This is with the lock shield fully open. If I close it, the temperature of the rad drops but the drop between in and out is still around 6 degrees difference. Feels like there...
