Changing kitchen ceiling rose to led ceiling light

hi all, I want to change the ordinary pendant light in our kitchen to a flat LED light. There are a few things coming off the ceiling rose (extractor fan, outside security light etc), so quite a few wires. Can I just use Wago connectors and push them up into the hole in the ceiling, and then...

Sealant for external doors / garage doors

Hi all, Just wondering what kind of sealant is best to use for around external doors, particularly garage doors. Mine needs replacing, as per photos. Thanks!

What needs to be done to this wall before painting?

Took a load of tiles off this plasterboard wall in the bathroom, have got the tiles and tile adhesive off. Won’t be retiring, just want to paint it. Do I need to employ the services of a plasterer to skim the wall first? Or is there something I can put on to smooth the wall myself? Cheers

    New shower area

Moved into this house a few weeks ago, and there’s always been a bit of a foul smell in the en suite bathroom. Tried cleaning the drains, didn’t make much difference. Yesterday (fun Christmas Eve!!) I think I found the cause under the shower: So, as I’m off for 2 weeks, tomorrow I am...

    Bathroom light, is this safe?

Took the cover off a bathroom light last night to replace a dim bulb. Bulb replacement fixed the issue, but couldn’t help noticing the wiring. There seems to be 4 t&e’s coming to the light fitting, which makes it look very cramped in there. I assume the 4 cables are 2 for the loop, 1 for...

Combi Boiler - One shower seems cold...

ok, have done that (I think), but it has dropped the pressure to the other shower also (which won't please the wife - her words this afternoon were "ok but try not to mess up the good shower"). Would I be able to fit a flexible tap connector with isolating valve below the bath and instead...

Combi Boiler - One shower seems cold...

Sorry, meant to say, opening the tap less seems to result in the water being hotter, and staying hotter. Apologies, did test that but got distracted calculating flow rates...

Combi Boiler - One shower seems cold...

is this just done by adjusting the main stopcock under the kitchen sink? My only concern is this will reduce pressure too all outlets, including the shower which is working well. Would it be preferable to fit a valve on the feed to the bath tap, so the flow to this could be reduced alone? They...

Combi Boiler - One shower seems cold...

Ok, so first thing I did was measure the flow rates from hot and cold taps in bath, and other shower. Bath tap flow rate (cold): 18L/min Bath tap flow rate (hot): 13.95L/min Bath tap flow rate (hot shower): 13.95L/min, same as bath. Other shower flow rate (at showering temp):11.7L/min...

Combi Boiler - One shower seems cold...

From below, seems like 15mm pipe supplying the bath, not 22 - does that make a difference?

5 lever mortice deadlock, or euro cylinder?

That would be the plan, to replace sashlock with the item above and fit a keyed-alike ABS cylinder, as I have done with front door and patio door. I'm really just asking if this will be as secure or better than an ordinary 5 lever sash?

Combi Boiler - One shower seems cold...

Cool, won't be home until lunchtime, so will give it a go then, cheers. Are you thinking that it's likely due to the naturally increased flowrate of a bath tap vs a basin tap, that the boiler simply can't keep up?

5 lever mortice deadlock, or euro cylinder?

We have just moved, and one of the first things I did was change the locks, fitting our front door and patio door locks with Avocet ABS Euro Cylinders, both keyed alike. The back door is a wooden item, and has a Yale 5 lever mortice sashlock, and am looking at changing that too. I am torn...

    Best Diamond Euro Cylinder

Just upgraded to ABS locks front and back here, seem very very good quality.

Combi Boiler - One shower seems cold...

Will try that when I get back home, thanks. :) Doesn't the combi boiler govern the flow rate in order to maintain a temperature though, in the same way an electric shower does? The other shower has an equal, if not better, flow rate and seems to maintain temperature ok. Am thinking of...

Combi Boiler - One shower seems cold...

Hi all, Just moved into a house with a combi boiler, (28kW Baxi DuoTec, recently serviced) it's the first time I've ever owned one, always being a system boiler and cylinder guy previously. Seems to work ok, and water pressure is decent. However, we have two showers, one is a standalone...

Blocking up old gas fire wall vent.

We’ve had a gas fire removed, and am wondering what an effective way to block up the massive draughty vent through the cavity wall, at least on the interior for now. House is ~17yrs old. I was thinking expanding foam, trimmed then topped off with plasterboard or plaster/filler? Don’t...

New bath waste unit, removing old silicon?

It looks like I need to fit a new bath waste unit. The old pop up mechanism isn't working. I understand it's best to use some silicon to seal the waste, in addition to the rubber washers etc provided. However, is it necessary to remove all the old silicon that has been used? If yes, using...
