    Paint ‘funny’ on walls

The grey seems to be drying absolutely fine actually. :) The white is disappointing though, I’ve used the same paint loads of times before, and it’s never been that bad. It is Leyland Trade vinyl Matt. Wonder was it the type of paint that was on the wall previously?

    Paint ‘funny’ on walls

Thanks mate, will try that. Same happened yesterday when painting white over the old magnolia. I knew it would take at least 2 coats, especially with white, it wasn’t expecting it to be that transparent?

    Paint ‘funny’ on walls

hi all, am overpainting magnolia with a light grey Matt emulsion (Dulux Chic Shadow), and the paint seems to be going onto the wall a bit funny, almost like a ‘mottled’ look. The cutting in seems to go on better with the brush, just the rollered parts, and thus they show through clearly...

Dodgy wiring? Got a rather nasty shock tonight :(

Thanks BAS - throw an oven in the mix there and you could be well over 32A, yes?

Dodgy wiring? Got a rather nasty shock tonight :(

Ok, so did some digging. Powered off at the meter board, took the cover off the CU and tested the continuity of wires I marked as 1, 2 and 3 (see photo). Turns out wires 1 and 2 had continuity, but 1 and 3 did not, neither did 2 and 3. So, as was suggested above, it seems that one side of...

What makes you say that mate? (About the socket in the loft) and why would that mean the circuits are joined somehow? Ta

Extending pipe work for double rad

Ok, thanks. And I presume the pipe has to be cleaned of paint etc before soldering an extension on?

New house - removing old ADE alarm

Ended up pulling the fuse and waiting the 20mins. Not popular with the neighbours. Few people out looking around to see where alarm was coming from, so I did the same :) No flashing lights to identify our box as the culprit :)

Dodgy wiring? Got a rather nasty shock tonight :(

Ok so did a bit more digging, and it turns out that, with everything switched off, switching on EITHER the 32A upstairs sockets mcb OR the 16A Immersion mcb will energise all upstairs sockets (as well as the old immersion switch in the airing cupboard). The term WTF comes to mind! Obviously...

New house - removing old ADE alarm

Just moved into a ‘new’ house, built 18yrs ago. It has an old ADE Optima Compact intruded alarm (of unknown generation). I want to remove it. Obviously when i disconnect the mains supply, the alarm soundest go off. So I took the cover off the main pane and disconnected the 12v battery. This...

Dodgy wiring? Got a rather nasty shock tonight :(

So, a 16A mcb on a ring final (at least I assume the upstairs sockets are on a ring final) is ok? The house did have a gravity fed hot water tank, with immersion, but this was done away with in 2012 when a combi boiler was fitted. So just curious why the immersion circuit is now being used for...

Extending pipe work for double rad

Not sure. Was thinking of cutting the soldered elbow off and putting a omething like a 10mm pushfit in chrome onto the horizontal pipe? Would need to get the paint off the copper i’d imagine. https://www.screwfix.com/p/pegler-push-fit-elbow-10mm/28509

Dodgy wiring? Got a rather nasty shock tonight :(

Just moved into a ‘new’ (18yrs old) house, and am decorating one room at a time. Went to change a socket tonight, turned off the 32A upstairs sockets MCB, as per the labelling on the consumer unit (photo attached). Unscrewed socket, went to disconnect the live and *ouch* - got a hell of a kick...

Extending pipe work for double rad

Just moved into a ‘new’ (18yrs old) house, and am decorating one room at a time. I want to replace the old single radiators without fins as I go, with double radiators in some instances. The pipework is 10mm copper, and protrudes about 40mm from the wall. I think need to extend it out by about...

    Fit TRV to this radiator?

Thanks bud, did look at those but I already have the TRV’s (albeit they are 15mm). Plus, I believe many of the 10mm TRV’s are just 15mm ones with inserts similar to those I posted above, no?

    Fit TRV to this radiator?

In the process of fitting an Evohome system, so need TRV valve bodies on all radiators.
