Is this a load bearing wall?

Not trying to sound defeatist or negative, but the floor under the carpet is weetabix, sorry, chip board and not floor boards, so will involve getting the hole saw out.... I'm 99% certain that the joists rest on the wall, but like I say, does this guarantee that it is load bearing?

Is this a load bearing wall?

Surely if the beams run accross the top of it they will be resting on it by default? But does that mean it is load bearing? I'm just confused by the fact that there is no real load above it (offset stud wall, no roof tie-in) yet it is made from breeze block. Difficult to view from above...

Is it expensive to replace a garden fence with a brick wall?

Our fence and posts need replacing and I'm tempted by one of those half wall / half fence types where the wall is about 3 foot tall with a short fence panel on top withthe fence panels separated by capped brick turrets if that makes any sense? I've no idea whatsoever of how much it costs to...

    Downstairs radiators cold

I think the problem is with the pump. It was set on position 2 yet nothing was happening. I switched to position 3 and it very slowly started to gather speed. After about 2 mins it is going quite fast, but if I turn it down to pos 2 or 1 it just stops. I think the pump is finished...

    Downstairs radiators cold

Pump is fine and makes it's usual hum. However, I ve just switched the heating on again and stayed by the boiler this time to see what happens. Shortly after firing up, you can hear a sound like a kettle bloiling which tells me there is an air lock in the boiler? If this is the case...

    Downstairs radiators cold

Okay, further investigation.... After a while, the pump works again and the boiler fires up..... for about a minute then the boiler shuts off again. It is as if there isn't enough flow through the boiler and as soon as the water in the boiler reaches a certain temp, it shuts down, were if...

    Downstairs radiators cold

Having removed the bathroom radiator today and re-filled the CH system, the downstairs rads don't get hot, they stay stone cold. I've bled every rad in the house 3 times and there is no air in any of them. Also, to add insult to injury, the pump has now stopped working. It is scalding hot...

    What is my floor construction?

How do I check whether it is beam and block or just a wooden suspended floor? Do I just drill a hole and have a peek?

    What is my floor construction?

Hello, can anyone help me identify what my ground floor is constructed from? THe house is 1990 and a small link detatched two story house. Under the carpet and underlay is a flat, smooth black rubbery type surface with no visible pattern. If I jump on the floor if has a very slight...

Is this load bearing? Cost of removal?

Just out of interest.... Given that the beams that go accross the top of the lounge from front to the middle wall that supports the staircase are 14 feet long and are perfectly ok, the ones in question that span the kitchen and dining room from side to side are only 18 inches longer...

Is this load bearing? Cost of removal?

Fair enough. Can't get under the bedroom floor without pulling up a wooden floor. Wall / replacement beam is 3m long and would rest on the outer wall at the rear of the house and the wall that divides the lounge / dining room that is also load bearing and made from breeze block. The...

Is this load bearing? Cost of removal?

No, it is off set by about 8" and is hollow stud wall.... However.... Note to self: Don't assume that beams in the front bedroon run all the way back to the rear of the house.... Just lifted the bathroom boards and found that from the top of the staircase backwards, the beams change...

Is this load bearing? Cost of removal?

Hello. I want to knock through from my small kitchen into my small dining room to create a kitchen diner (like everyone else). I've just taken a drill to the offending wall and it is single course breeze block with dot/dab plaster board each side. Does this mean it is automatically a...

Rough cost of wet under floor heating

Thank you everyone for your replies. It looks like too much money. work and stress for a small floor area. I guess I'll stick to traditional rads. Thanks.

Rough cost of wet under floor heating

I'm about to knock through to create a kitchen / diner and want underfloor heating but haven't got a clue what it might cost. The room will be 15' x 10'. I have a fully pumped standard CH system with 10mm micro bore rads. The wall to be knocked down has a rad on each side that will be...

Thermostaticaly controlled mixer shower + angry wife!

Valve arrived as promissed and guess what, they had modified some elements of the design which would prevent the problems I had from occuring again. Swithed it all over into the original housing that was still burried in the wall, put it all back together, calibrated and tested it. Perfect...

Thermostaticaly controlled mixer shower + angry wife!

From what the guy said on the phone, I get the feeling that it's the good will and customer support from Hudson Reed that allows them to be so 'easy going' about it. Having said that, they were curteous and helpful before I even mentioned what brand it was, so yeah, great service anyway.

Thermostaticaly controlled mixer shower + angry wife!

Just spoken to Taps4less who supplied it and they are sending a replacement out to me. I can leave the body in the wall and just use the innards etc. Can't complain about that. Excellent service.

Thermostaticaly controlled mixer shower + angry wife!

No, nothing on - line. Thing is, I was verey careful to lay things out on the floor in the exact order they were removed to aid reassembly. Most circlips are a bespoke size for their groove. Nothing was left out, and nothig ambiguous on rebuild. It's more that there is slack in part of...
