    Another risky project

Hang on! So what you're saying is that I could just drill a hole in the wall, remove the plug from an extension socket of say three or four sockets, pass the cable through from outside (via this sealed box), re-attach the plug and plug into a socket inside the house? ¡No need for an electrician!

    Another risky project

Thanks for that - so if I got a power point (a proper weather IP one) installed on the outside of the house, could I plug these so-called 'ELV' lights into that? If so, then I'd be able to use that power point for other stuff like lawn more etc.?

    Another risky project

Probably sounds best to go shopping and just get the electrician to put them in. This way I can control what we end up with. Thanks.

    Another risky project

If I go shopping for them, then, how would I recognise 'ELV' and 'wall-wart'? I don't want to limited by the choice of the electrician, but would like to go to different shops, ie B+Q, Focus etc.

    Another risky project

lol! Only kidding. I simply want to know if it would be possible for an electrician (ie NOT me!) to run some of those simple lights you get in wooden decking from a ring main. The nearest cable that I know of to the decking is a power point in the wall. Can this be used to power lights...

    Taking power to the shed

ok, I really think I'm up to speed on recognising my own limitations and the nature of the task, thanks to the replies on here. Sorry if I was a little harsh in complaining about some of the replies. I won't try to do all of the jobs, but just some of the wiring of sockets etc., as I am...

    Taking power to the shed

Ah, yes, I see. Cheers. 'Splitting tails' - isn't that potentially quite dangerous?

    Taking power to the shed

I'll try to deal with these points in reverse - as they appear on the screen below. @ Swingles I don't get fazed by the curious 'comments', either on this forum or any other - I'm here to get specific information, not have an argument. You're dead right - I don't want to be dead, nor...

Couldn't agree more. I'll post a bit more when I've read the bed time story.

    Taking power to the shed

ok, that's fine. I appreciate a straight reply rather than the other silly attempts at the same thing, but falling flat. I'm more than willing to listen to good advice, but not little boy's games. Cheers chaps.

    Taking power to the shed

Could I just extend the ring main and the lighting from the house to the garage instead, and do away with the consumer unit in the shed?

    Taking power to the shed

Question. Regarding the SWA, is it necessary to run it inside a conduit, or just leave it as it is? The plan is to fix it to the floor adjacent to the main building on exit, then underground to emerge at the side of the shed. Thx.

    Taking power to the shed

Hi there. Ok, following on from my post about the SWA abbreviation, here's the project that gives rise to that question. In short, I want to connect this To this: I am planning on using 6mm 3c SWA. The demand side of the project will be a few fridges/freezers and the...

    SWA cable

Are you allowed to type this type of cable or not? If not, how can the supplier supply a suitable length? TIA.

    SWA cable

All questions that I hope address in another thread. I was just curious at this point in time to know what SWA meant, and about cutting it. Will post another thread on the matter in due course. (What does MYOB mean?)

    SWA cable

I am assuming that the length I buy will not fit exactly the run I am planning on putting in. Am I missing something? I see on tlc direct that you can buy it by the metre, but no halfway in that measurement.

    SWA cable

Hi, quick question, what does the 'SWA' in armoured cable mean, please? Secondly, how is this cable best cut? Thank you in advance.
