    Flickering lights

Right, discovered 3 red wires going to the 2 MCB's and I have worked out 1 is the smoke alarms, 1 is upstairs lights and 1 is downstairs lights. I have tried all 3 one at once in the 1 working MCB and still can't get the downstairs lights to work so I am assuming it's not a fault in the CU...

    Bathroom Lighting 12v Driver Question

I recommend same As above, remove 12V drivers and change to change GU10 holders (I suggest fire rated as also reduces draft and moisture ingress into space above ceiling)...

    Downlight bulb replacement

They look more like GU10 lamps, as others have said squeeze to two metal prongs together and remove the retaining clip. If it is the same as the ones I have seen the lamp will drop down with a lampholder on a flying (heat resistant) lead. If it is GU10 the lamp holder needs to be rotated from...

    Kitchen Lights

GU10 down lights are the best to install imho. Easy to change bulbs, to replace them or change the colour output or wattage and don’t need to remove the unit from the ceiling unlike sealed units

    Replacing Halogen Transformer

Midas Ericmark has highlighted a good idea that I missed. I would buy a new GU10 downlight. But if you want to keep the old one (becuase it matches others) you might be able to keep your current downlight bulb holder (and save 1 or 2 pounds). In your current downlight, replace the current...

    GU5.3 12v or 240v - how to identfy

OK, My present lamps are MR16 GU5.3 12v 42w x 12. It seems unless I am wrong that the GU10 230v LEDs are more common than the GU5.3 12v LEDs on the High street. My intentions are to remove the transformers and the GU5.3 lamp holders. Purchase GU10 lamp holders and GU10 230v LEDs and...

    LEDs flash very so often

I've replaced a load of 50watt halogen GU10's with 5watt LED GU10's. In one area (where there's 6 bulbs) on of the bulbs flashes once (very quick flash) ever 30-60seconds. When I remove the bulb it passes to another one if the bulbs and I remove this it moves to the next. Any ideas? I've...

    LED Halogen Equivalents

MR16 are 12v so have a transformer/power supply in the floor above. You will need to be able to access this, to remove it, if you want to convert to GU10. Maybe time for a re think!

Are these downlights halogen or LED? Could they catch fire?

GU10 suggests they are removable lamps, as Many lamps have GU10 cap and will fit, the only way to tell is by a photo of the actual lamp, If they were halogen you cannot hold your hand too near the lamp as you would burn it, an led would be at worst warm to touch. The white plastic back of the...

    Replace light bulb

There are likely to be two types of bulb with this type of unit - the GU10 twist and turn anticlockwise type and a two pin pull out type. If you are still struggling to get the bulb out and you can gain access to the (loft?) space above the lamp you can distinguish between the two - the GU10...

MR16 bulbs in bathroom keep on blowing out

You may or not be able to convert your existing downlights to mains 230 volt GU10. It will depend if your existing fittings are bathroom rated, typically this means a glass removable cover over the lamps. or Whether a GU10 lamp will sit in the existing fitting nicely - I have had it where a...

    spot lights in kichen

Remove the bulbs (circlips for the GU10's often enough) and try a replacement bulb.....if they are 12v ones, the transformer will be in the void on a length of cable once the whole fitting is prised clear from the ceiling. John :)

There’s a transformer somewhere in that insulation which will also be melting , remove all and wire in mains gu10 bulb holder then you can replace with led mains lamps and save a few quid on the running costs.

    GU5.3 12v or 240v - how to identfy

you need to decide if your sticking to 12 volt GU5.3 led or using 240 volt GU10 led, if you opt for this then you will need to alter your wiring, and remove the transformers, and fit new lampholders

MR16 bulbs in bathroom keep on blowing out

He may need an electrician. Not everyone is clued up. Supposing the 240v cabling won’t reach the lamp holders for instance.

    GU5.3 12v or 240v - how to identfy

Are you not overlooking the fact that the OP could use 12v GU10 LEDs? Admittedly, the existing 'transformers' may or may not be suitable for LEDs. Kind Regards, John

    Downlights - GU10 fittings v integrated fittings

GU10 everytime. No issues when they fail. And you can change the lamp for a different colour effect when you like. Too many issues with failing integrated ones, including the risk of damage to ceiling when removing the fitting.
