Reminds me of Bournemouth, you could cycle along the beach path from Poole and have to dismount at Bournemouth, at Bournemouth they even had a section of beach designated as 'non smoking'.

My first thought was a smoke alarm, but I'd be very surprised if that could be heard in a neighbouring house. Are you semi-detatched? Do you have a burglar alarm that could be on the blink maybe? Was there anything common in what you were doing each time you heard the beep, if that makes sense?

i love my wood burner in my work shop and all timber i burn is free even i will use an electric heater on some days as the 5 or so units used costing 65-80p saves annoying the neighbours with the smoke you get with a well closed down fire:D
