How To Plug Hole In Drain Pipe

I have an approx 1cm diameter hole in an outside lavatory drain pipe, I have no idea how it got there but it was previously plugged with a piece of wood which has now came out and I want to plug it properly. I previously just put on some bathroom sealant temporarily, but it is now leaking and...

Gas Fire Not Lighting When High Wind

Hi, I wonder if anybody may have any suggestions re a gas fire problem I am experiencing. The fire is a Flavel Windsor HE, installed July 2012, under 3 year guarantee. What is happening is that when there is a high wind outside, it won't light. The pilot flame just keeps blowing out...

    CRT Television Set Problem

Yes thanks I am being careful not to touch anything by hand directly, only with electricians screwdriver, or multilmeter probes.

    CRT Television Set Problem

I have the tools - soldering iron & multimeter - and some basic knowledge, I'm gonna have a look now and see if there's anything obvious, else it'll be time for a new one I think. About an hour ago it started making strange fizzing noises and picture went away completely, except for blurry...

    CRT Television Set Problem

Hi I have 21" CRT television from the Stone Age, a Panasonic TC-21R1, about 19 years old, and recently the picture has started to shift to the left about 2-3 inches, and pin-cushion (ie bowing) on the right hand side. When I hit the TV cabinet with my hand it goes back to normal, and the...

    Bad Rot On Window Frame

Thank you for all replies. I have got a joiner who is going to replace two of the beads for £40, and I will apply hardener and filler to the rest, which should keep it going for a while yet hopefully.

    Bad Rot On Window Frame

Thanks for reply. I would get the joiner to replace the beading, as I don't know how to do that, or even where I would get the right size piece of wood, but I could apply the wood hardener and filler myself as that seems straightforward. And I've no problem about painting it myself. Or could...

    Bad Rot On Window Frame

Hi, thanks for replies. I think it might be a good option to replace the 'beading'. I am not familiar with this term, but I assume its the sections of wood that go immediately around the glass. I don't know if its easy to do this yourself, or better to get a joiner to do it. In any...

    Bad Rot On Window Frame

Hi there, I wonder if anyone could advise me re a bad case of wood rot on a window frame in my house. I attach a photo of the affected area, which I have started to scrape away to see how extensive the damage is. Apart from this area the window frame appears to be otherwise intact - I have went...

Is This A Neon Tester Screwdriver ?

In the instructions they say "Test before use", but no explanation is given of how to carry out such a test. It would be useful if there was some way of testing it, as with one of these RCD plugs used for electric lawnmowers and hedge-trimmers, where an indicator lets you know if it is working...

Is This A Neon Tester Screwdriver ?

I am beginning to see the point of this tester. With the multimeter you only measure the difference in potential between two points in a circuit. If both those points are at 240Volts relative to you, then they will register zero volts on the multimeter, but will give you a serious shock if you...

Is This A Neon Tester Screwdriver ?

Thanks for all replies. I think I'll stick to using the multimeter as you know you are insulated by the probes. With electricity 100% sureness is needed. I had a mains voltage shock many years ago when I was young and I wouldn't fancy it again. Thanks and Merry Xmas ! :)

Is This A Neon Tester Screwdriver ?

If these neon tester screwdrivers are so dangerous why are they even sold in the first place ? How can they get the various quality markings such as CE ? And why does a reputable company like Stanley manufacture them ? :?

Is This A Neon Tester Screwdriver ?

Hi folks, I am new to this forum and wonder if I can ask a little advice on an electrical matter. I have just managed to replace a broken ceiling pendent light fitting, and whilst doing this I was very careful not to make any stupid mistakes and get a shock. Whilst purchasing the pendent...
