    Testing an extractor fan

Hi, I've got a 6" inline fan that is playing up. The fan runs very slowly but is not fouling at all. I've attached a diagram of the motor circuit and have 407 ohms across white and red, black and red is 207 ohms, white and black is 200 ohms, white and yellow is short, black and brown is 160...

Doorway in a 9" solid wall

Hi, I want to knock a 30" doorway in a 9" solid load bearing wall in a Victorian terrace. It will lead to an outhouse which is to be converted. How about two of these or can anyone recommend another lintel to use. Can the lintel sit on existing brickwork or do I need to use a padstone. I've...

    HDMI over Cat5 or not

Looks like i'm running Cat5's then. I'll probably be running 2 per TV. Am I likely to get away with unsheilded CAT5e for <20m?

    HDMI over Cat5 or not

Hi, I am going to buy some long HDMI cables to run into walls and so on. There will be 5 cables 10, 15, 15, 20 and 20 metres in length. What is the crossover point where I should consider using Cat5 and baluns. Am i to expect significant degradation to the signal over 20 metres using HDMI...

    IR distribution

That's a really neat solution Lucid. I was going to run some cable in for the IR detectors but now I don't have to seeing as I'm using the coax for the RF. I have tried the sky app but it seems like a bit of a faff to unlock the phone and launch the app just to change channel. Thanks for your...

    IR distribution

Hi, I'm going to locate a Sky box and HTPC in a 19 "rack alongside network switches, patch panel and uhf amp in a remote cupboard. Ill be distributing HDMI from the Sky box and HTPC to 4 tv's (alongside uhf and ethernet) via a hdmi splitter and baluns. I won't be using a 4x4 matrix due to cost...

How to remove this concrete slab

Hi, I've got to break up a 15 inch thick concrete slab(see picture). In the photo you can see the breaker that I have been using but all I have managed to do is chip the edge of the step and that took an hour. I wondered whether to hire this...

    28 degree pitch/Redland 52s

So if I measure my existing headlap I'll be able to see whether it is appropriate for 28 degrees....or rather I'll be able to ask you taz

    28 degree pitch/Redland 52s

That's exactly the information I was looking for. I guess the roofers will work out the headlap. The current roof pitch is 37.5 but for one reason or another, part of the extension will be 28 degrees. Will a variance in the headlap be noticeable or would the roofer just copy what is already there?
