    Bubbling paint

Help! About half way down the wall/shower screen I have started to get bubbling. I have removed/replaced the silicone inside and outside a couple of times and stopped much more obvious leaks. But, I just can’t see where the water is accumulating from, the wall is wet but no water is obvious and...

Do I still have a leak?

I had a leak in the underfloor heating which was fixed and has been retiled… I have just noticed this water mark outside. Any ideas how I tell if something is still leaking? Or how long it might take for this to go and know we’re in the clear?

    Butchers block bevel protection?

The blocks bevel edge up against the worktop is going to become a food trap. Any ideas for a DIY solution?

    Replacing leaking tiles

Recently had a supporting wall replaced with a beam and a leaky spot has appeared. The enclosed shower is directly above… in the shower are 4 cracked tiles. Do I just get a tiler to replace those tiles, re grout and re silicone or is likely something more dramatic required?

    What pipe?

Bit of pipe next to the just removed chimney now sticks out like a sore thumb. Is it likely to be gas? Can the pipe be legally capped under a floorboard if it is?

    Felt over parapet walls

From the ground I can see my parapet walls have felt over the top. Is that usual practice? It’s almost impossible to see from the ground but it’s sitting on top of the bricks My guess is someone did that rather replace/ correct the slates and DPM or add flashings, but I’d like some more...

    Structural opening for sliding door

I’m building a dividing stud wall in my garage and I’m going to be installing a sliding door so I can maximise storage space in both areas and I’m having an 838 wide door. I don’t think I need a door frame or stops or any of that so I think I can just build the wall with a rough 838 space or...

    Short door options?

Door going into my garage is 1900 (roughly) it even has glazing! I want to replace it and add a solid door inside. Both need to be around 1900. Any ideas where I can purchase a door that is this length or trimmable by that much? I don’t want the expense of a custom door or hiring a carpenter

    Fire stop behind stud walls

I am building up some stud walls inside a block work garage and I’m replacing the ceiling. I have 100mm insulation and fire retardant board for the ceiling. If I install the top plate for the stud walls first I’ll be left with an inch in the top corner behind the studs which won’t be fire...

Should I replace or ignore this?

I’m replacing a ceiling and I’ve uncovered some pipe work. There’s been no issues with the plumbing and no leaks, but they look pretty appalling. Maybe it’s just old flux, but having seen them, should I DO anything?

    Battens over pebbledash?

One of my garage walls is pebbledashed - I assume it was an external wall way back when. Would be great if occasionally with a heater and dehumidifier I could dry clothes there. I was thinking I would use basic battens and an eco foil, with board over the top. Anyway. To batten the pebble...

    9.5 or 12.5mm garage

I’m replacing a thin and poorly insulated ceiling and dry lining some new walls in my garage/utility. The current ceiling doesn’t look to be fireboard or even doubled up. Am I ok to board the walls with 9.5mm and then double board the ceiling? This will keep wastage at an absolute minimum. Or...

Adding a washing machine in my garage close to boiler?

I am insulating my garage and moving my old kitchen there with sink and washing machine. The boiler is also out there and the stack pipe is against one of the walls. Originally I’d planned to run hot/cold water and waste into a toilet inside the house. I’ve seen some straps with universal...

    Washing machine - sink - 32 /40mm

I’m moving my kitchen sink and washing machine into my garage and routing the plumbing into the downstairs toilet. The downstairs toilet is due to be upgraded in several months time with the rest of the kitchen. I’m getting ahead of all that, so there’ll be a significant time gap. It’s an...

    Garage electrics

I have an existing garage with a single light, 3 separate controls (1 inside the house and 2 in the garage) and 2 sockets. I want to insulate the garage, box off the boiler in there and separate the space into a cycle store (front 1/3) and a laundry /drying room incl. deep freezer (2-3/3). I’ll...

    Leaky P trap

I have checked the gaskets and seals, they were grubby but seemed ok. Applied some sealant stuff and tightened everything back up. But, I don’t think the P trap looks right in general and maybe I should consider replacing/rerouting the trap - thoughts?

    Radiator order loop

I’m having a bit or a nightmare balancing my radiators as I can’t seem to identify the right order… pretty much on my own with 10 radiators and they all seem to heat up at the same time… Anyone offer any tips/tricks I’m definitely getting it wrong because one of the rads is 10degrees colder...

    Garage ceiling insulation

I have a room above a garage and it gets cold. The garage below has a boarded roof, so I’m unsure if it’s insulated. The roof is relatively low, so an additional insulation overboard and plasterboard seems extreme. The room above was done about 1 year ago, in hindsight I wish I’d insulated...
