    What key for this valve?

So other than lots of cautionary posts saying don’t touch it, which I don’t intend to do, can someone enlighten me on the valve type and key.

    What key for this valve?

So it’s definitely gas? I’m not familiar with these valves, I’ve never seen one before so I’m just curious.

Thanks it’s located on my driveway, but I appreciate the concern. The question relates to what type of key it is thanks.

Insulating under a suspended timber floor

Well it’s all relative. My concern is that (although heat rises) we are heating this very large dead space underneath our house, by virtue of the fact that there is only wood boards for insulation between the floors. Access would be relatively easy for me to fit the insulation, so it is just the...

Insulating under a suspended timber floor

Thanks, but we do t have carpets and underlay. We have wooden floors. Walls have been cavity filled. The roof has been converted into a loft and is well insulated. We have 3.3m tall rooms, so the last place to tackle is the floor.

Insulating under a suspended timber floor

Hi, I have a 1890’s house which has a cellar under the entire house (currently under 6” of water, but that is a different issue). The house is always cold and costs a fortune to run, so I am wondering how best to insulate the ground floor, which is a suspended timber floor. Currently I will need...

    Very Shiny Leyland Oil Eggshell

I took my scrap piece (third image) to a 3rd party to scan it, as they would have no vested interest in saying it was the same colour. To be fair, when both the emulsion and the eggshell were going on wet, they looked very similar, and then of course the emulsion dried quickly and went darker...

    Very Shiny Leyland Oil Eggshell

It seems that the sheen of the eggshell on this product is causing the problem, as the two paint colours were tested as being the same. I have bought an Acrylic Durable Matt to try, so hopefully this will get me the results I want. It's quite remarkable the effect of the sheen on the colour...

    Very Shiny Leyland Oil Eggshell

So today I started putting on some Leyland trade oil based Eggshell, it is supposed to be matched to F&B Hague blue, but when it went on the wood it looked almost green. The walls by comparison are a really nice inky blue. Both colours were mixed on the same machine by the same person. The...

Soda Blasting? That's' a new one for me, I'll check it out thanks. Is the Soda typically carried out by a water solution or is it a powdered pellet?

    How to tackle this?

I’m looking at this property as a development opportunity. It looks like some time ago someone has painted all the Accrington brick, with textured masonry paint and it is starting to come off. The property is by the sea, so presumably it was painted to rectify spalled bricks, I’m thinking it...

Permitted development - 1st Floor Extension over front flat roof garage

Care to expand on that? Is it a building line issue or 1st storey on a principle elevation the issue?

Permitted development - 1st Floor Extension over front flat roof garage

Hi I have a property and I am looking at the possibility of extending the first floor over a small flat roof garage and porch to the front of the property. The porch and garage currently extends from the front elevation by 2m. Is this likely to require planning, as I am not increasing the...

How best to deal with this

I’m on a with a renovation project, a complete house, so there’s a lot for me to get through. In the hallway I’ve stripped the paper and found that the last guy appears to have scored the wall in diamond patterns (presumably to strip the paper last time) they’ve made a bit of a mess of the...

    Sri Lankan house build

Thanks for the reply. We’ve already been out here for 3 months doing renovation work for a charity, painting outside and repointing paving stones so yes it’s hot! But we are getting used to it. The sound of the metal is a good point, I was planning to line it in timber, but they also widely use...

    Sri Lankan house build

In May I will be building a house in Sri Lanka, we are doing voluntary work out here and we have found a family who desperately needs a home, so we want to build them one. I’m an experienced developer in the UK, having both built from scratch, as well as renovated plenty of properties. I’m very...

No trims and sealant on newly fitted UPVC windows

Just this week I've had about 20 UPVC Windows fitted. All the windows to the rear of the property ( which we plan to have rendered) have not had trims or sealant fitted, only expanding foam. The installer says this is because the window reveals will be rendered. I'm not convinced. Is it...
