    Garage wiring question.

Wow, That escalated a little! So its safe, although not done quite correctly, it needs the lighting circuit down fusing with an FCU and 3a fuse? Am i better off replacing the 16a RCD with a 32a? Am i within the rules to do this work myself?

    Garage wiring question.

Just out of interest, how have you come to the conclusion that it is a ring final circuit, did you start with end to end continuity tests of all conductors, then r1+r2 tests? PrenticeboyofDerry, Visually, i can see the whole cable run. And did you think about why someone would install a ring...

    Garage wiring question.

Recently moved into a "new to us" house, have a question about the wiring in the garage. The garage is built onto the side of the house, it has its own dedicated ring final, which has 3 double sockets, however, it also has 2 junction boxes in the ring final that supplies power to the 2 strip...

    Safe Zone?

Thanks all. Floor is concrete, so thats a no go. Looks like my best option is up from the socket, around the top and down. At least i can get on with bricking up the fireplace.

    Safe Zone?

I want to add a socket to the ring main in our front room, however, i have a socket on one side of the fireplace, question is, does the horizontal safe zone extend around the fireplace (which sticks out from the main wall) to the other side? I`m having the fireplace bricked up, so before i...

    Kitchen wiring question

Let me try to be a little clearer. I`m rewiring the kitchen as i still have the old original wiring, the black rubber coated type. At present, the single socket is fed by one single cable, direct to old CU. The cable runs through joists, (through holes) in a flat roof above the kitchen...

    Kitchen wiring question

The LABC man is due to pay a visit next week before i start any work, everythings sorted apart from plans for kitchen wiring. I need to swap a single socket for a double socket to power a combi boiler and the washing machine. Thing is, the old wiring is a radial circuit, and running 2 x 2.5mm...

    CU/Main Earth wire connection

The RCD is 63A 30mA, it was fitted due to a couple of faulty circuits, which have now been rectified. I`m having a split load, dual RCD CU fitted, and been advised to have it removed and replaced with an isolator switch so any future work on CU can be carried out safely. Thanks all.

    CU/Main Earth wire connection

The main earth wire to the CU is joined with a screw type connector/bolt? on the board as per picture. Is this ok or will it need upgrading, ie, crimped or something when the new Wylex CU is fitted? And any recommendations on a new isolator switch to replace the RCD installed between...

    Which Consumer Unit?

Looks like we have a winner. Be ordering one of these tommorrow. Another question, under 17th edition, i`ve read all the sockets and bathroom electrics need to be RCD protected? As i have 2 seperate circuits for upstairs and downstairs sockets, the bathroom has no electrics other than the...
