Mixing lighting circuit wiring?

Yes, but you must remember that junction boxes must be kept accessible for inspection and testing. This does not include under floorboards, behind walls or anywhere else that would require some form of demolition to get at.

It is also vital that all conductors are appropriately identified by use of coloured sleeving (brown on blue for switched live) and of course green/yellow for the bare earth conductors. Remember than when you are looping between the JB's or fittings that earth continuity must be maintained, don't think you can just snip it back where a plastic switchplate is used.

If 'proper' diagrams are made available, I can't see why a junction box under the floorboards isn't classed as accessible.

It is unreasonable to lift a carpet every 5 or 10 years to check on a junction box?

Before people start having apoplectics - if diagrams were produced, if they were kept safe and passed on, if a PIR was undertaken at change of occupancy, if the electrician informed the client, if the next PIR was failed because the owner refused access to the JB, wouldn't we be on the road to worthy standards with eveyone inclusive? ;)

Maybe we could extend that to documenting where there are cables in the walls, thus making the householder sufficiently instructed to avoid the hazards from drilling into cables and thus removing the need for RCD protection....

No.

But what about the ad-hoc lifting of laminate flooring when something has gone wrong?

Where cables are installed outside the prescribed zones, I agree.

Anything ad-hoc is just that ...ad-hoc.

If something goes wrong, it would be a fault scenario so there is no difference to knocking all the bathrooms tiles off the wall, ruining the anaglypta etc..

so your saying that knocking off the tiles and tearing the wall paper off is not acceptable then oh well thats the fun out the job

The manufacturers are responding e.g. the Ashley or Hager lifetime guarantee JB or whatever it's called.

Personally, I wonder if it wouldn't be better to ban JBs and the like altogether. Only connections to be at accessories.

We can dream.

Quite a few could be done away with if you could get butt crimps with 3 or 4 cable positions in a Y or X shape....
