Hi, I did get the Varilight dimmer eventually and fitted. When 5 bulb light was fully on, LEDs OK but you start to Dim and one of the LEDs' go out....dim a bit more and the next one starts to flicker then goes out. PS Ericmark, not really wanting lights for heating or to use tungsten lamps etc.

Ah OK, so no good for my LED's then. Tried the faulty LED's on a rocker switch and no good so def' need replacing. Time to start looking for some 'Trailing edge' dimmers then.

Yep, they did Dim all be it the LED's were very bright then dimmed not very smoothly at all! not tried on a rocker...will check in bedroom. At £4 a pop I may as well try it. Not sure on Load rating...I have taken a photo of the rear of the dimmer.....

Yep, tried it with one of the incandescent bulbs and they light up. But, looks like two of the LED bulbs may have blown the circuitry as they did not light at all :( Still have the receipt so may try and swap them out ;) So, looks like a Dimmer change! Thanks for your help all. :)

PrenticeBoy, I will check out the Dimmer rating as I think it may be this causing the issues....Did some Googling last night and read more on the Trailing Edge dimmers, these seem to be the ones to get for LED bulbs. I have a new 3 bulb lamp with LED's in my lounge and it has a new LED dimmer...

Thanks for this John. Yes that definitely makes sense as there has been new pipework installed from where the old back boiler was in the dining room to where the boiler is now on the first floor. I will check the pipes and see what I can see. Regards

OK, we now have a GSI chap coming to remove the old fire and fit the new one....Just a plasterer now to do the bit in between!!

OK so the plasterboard would be OK to use but to stop the cracking I would need some extreme heat plaster or a special render? :)
