Advice to lighten up wooden beams

Another temporary fix is to tack on some wood effect wallpaper or how about doing a fabric lining similar to a marquee? I was in a kitchen of a country house where they had hidden the ceiling (if there actually was one!) with gathered fabric draped help up by a pole running down the middles...

Advice to lighten up wooden beams

How about planing off a thin layer of wood? That would not create dust. The disposable type yellow window scrapers that have a sharp blade in from Wickes or Brewers are cheap are ok at shaving off bits of wood. You could experiment on a patch first. The finish would be a bit rough though.

Kitchen floor wood effect; Karndean, Amitico or what?

Thanks for the info. Damp will not be an issue as its not ground floor. Not sure how even we will be able to get the floor; its a victorian building. The current kitchen units are not very level but the installation was terrible. So we'll see when it all comes out. Does the MflorClick...

Kitchen floor wood effect; Karndean, Amitico or what?

Hi Replacing an old T&G pine floor with vinyl around units, in a kitchen. I still would like a wood floor effect that is water resistant. I have been recommended Kardean or Amtico. Doing some research, I saw someone said for Amtico you are meant to strip it after laying and apply...

Okay to put underfloor heating beneath kitchen appliances?

When we had underfloor heating put in the concrete screed, we deliberately avoided the kitchen unit area directly underneath a) we did not want to heat the wooden units and cause unecessary stress on the wood b) Did not want the contents of the cupboards to be heated unnecessarily; this...

Flooring ideas for kitchen/living space; contrast or uniform

Hi In my cosy one bed victorian top floor flat i have a kitchen about 13ft x 11ft. The kitchen is a linear one down just one side of the wall, giving a reasonable living space in the rest of the room with a fireplace. I like this concept for maximum flexibility of the room; so its not just a...

Vinyl over T&G floating floor; temporary solution?

These are sound suggestions but it would grieve me to spend the extra on the ply or boarding if it had to be ripped up in a years time. I could rip up the T&G and put the ply down which could be tiled over later when the kitchen is done "properly" and just have the cheapest vinyl until then...

Vinyl flooring.. feature wall in kitchen?

You may laugh but the previous occupant in my flat has put tile-style vinyl on the walls as fake tiling above the counter top. It does wipe down very well.

Vinyl over T&G floating floor; temporary solution?

Hi My kitchen (11ft x 13 ft) is due a refurb but for logistical and financial reasons cannot be done for at least a year. The flooring left by previous occupant is varished tongue and groove in the dining area, over wooden floor boards. I think it was probably done about 10 years ago or...
