    Expansion Valve dischargin

Kane: if the pressure reducing valve is fine and the discharge is all the time and not just when heated (charge pressure is OK as you said) then it must be the pressure relief valve is not shutting off properley/not seating correctly. Maybe grit in it (although the line strainer should have...

Unvented G3 - what does it teach you?

How would a faulty 2 port valve cause the combined temperatue pressure relief valve to operate and discharge water via the Tundish?? I know it has a permanent live feed BUT surely the boiler stat would kick in before the 95 degree C operating temp of the trv?? also is the cylinder...

Immersion heater replacement in unvented system

usualy immersion heaters are 2 1/4 inch diamteter but as you said, unvented controls are special and specific and you can't mix and match and install any old part on it btw about the expansion vessel - when you drain down the charge in the vessel will be the same when you fill it ...

Why move the FE tank feed to other side of pump/valve?

The feed after the pump could mean water being pumped up it (as under positie pressure) but your probelm is with the vent pumping over. Unless both are?

Hot water starving heating... and Boiler Noises!

Maybe a scaled up boiler heat exchanger/pipe or flow and return connections to the boiler a bit scaled up. Maybe you have a gate valve (wheel head removed) on your primary return from the hot water cylinder, which hasn't been opened enough. It should be set about 1/2 way, so the hot water...

oil fired bolier stays on & heats up downstairs radiator

if you have a 2 port motorised valve then this could be stuck in the open/on position. it has a permanent live feed to it (the grey wire normally).

Why move the FE tank feed to other side of pump/valve?

That is not enough, the vent pipe must rise above the water level about 450mm minimum before looping over (I think you are getting pumping over, as it is only when your htg is on). This has been like this since first installed I take it? Or have you had a new pump installed anytime...

Radiator and system to be drained down. 2 Problems?

yeah he could drain the rad in a drip try if he has one, or an old bucket. those collar thing around the pipes are good too... better than my idea seco services! of course there's also the problem of not being able to fully shut of TRVs if the poster has one??

Why move the FE tank feed to other side of pump/valve?

Is the water coming out of the vent pipe or back up the cold feed? i'd say your water level is way to high anyway in the f & e cistern. how high is your vent pipe between the water level and from where it bends over into a u shape?

Radiator and system to be drained down. 2 Problems?

the poster didn't state how long the rad was!!! - if it is that long then he's gonna need a mate wit him! Or the wife! what else would you suggest then seco services to the poster?

Why move the FE tank feed to other side of pump/valve?

water shouldn't come from the vent on expanding anyway, but up from the cold feed. how far is your pump from the F & E?

Unvented G3 - what does it teach you?

haha i get you!! what i mean is, faults like: a temp/pressure relief valve dripping/discharging: but the cylinder stats OK? how would you know the tem relief valve was at fault, what would you do to test? and things like reasons for an expan valve to operate other than lack of charge in...

Radiator and system to be drained down. 2 Problems?

If your drain off doesn't work, then you will need to turn off both rad valves to the radiator and drain that rad quickly outside, with thumbs over both ends to stop the water/dirty colouyred water usually, from spilling allk over the carpet. Then you'll need to make a device such as a 15mm...

Why move the FE tank feed to other side of pump/valve?

how much gap is there between the water level in the F & R tank (when htg and hw OFF) and the overflow pipe level?

    Broken Street Stop Valve

From what I know, if you havent' tampreed and broken/damaged the valve yourself, then it is their responibility to come out and fix it/change it!! if you ever need to touch the street stopvalve and it is very stiff, etc then it's not worth forcing it, etc as if you break it, then you will be...

Unvented G3 - what does it teach you?

oh right - so not much then  i thought it'd be full of stuff like replacing an expansion valve carridge, fault finding, re-preurising the cyklinder/vessel, etc... i take it there's a theory exam at the end also?

    Heating problems

replacing the rads after flushing is not hard, just use a bit of boss white (jointing compound) around the olive and threads to make sure the olive nips tight again and seals.

Unvented G3 - what does it teach you?

I probably will, but would like to know what to expect really-and what practical there is during the course like is there any maintenance of parts, etc, which would be useful.

Unvented G3 - what does it teach you?

I hope this is the right place to post this topic? I am thinking of going on an Unvented Systems G3 course at a local college. It is a 1, long day course. I was wondering if it is worth while going on, and what exactly it will teach me? If anyone's been on this course then any reviews...
