    Filling a chase

I have one chase to fill over plastic conduit and having looked around this board and the general consensus is bonding plaster up to 1-3 mm below surface then finishing plaster. I have 2 questions... Is there an alternative to bonding plaster as I only have one chase to fill and the...

    Is my hammer drill broken?

Not to worry, Found another post about an intermittent hammer function fault on a DeWalt SDS Power drill so looks like it just needs to go back for an exchange.

    Is my hammer drill broken?

Hi everyone, Ive got a proper newbie question. I'm currently using a chisel bit with Dewalt SDS Hammer drill (D25113) to chase out some breeze block and it doesn't seem to always be working the same way. I think its broken but I just wanna make sure I'm not being stupid and using it...

How deep does conduit have to buried?

Thanks for the reply but I was already aware of the regs. The chase is run in a safe zone cos its going in a straight line from the switch to the ceiling. Its an RCD protected circuit so it can be buried at a depth of less than 50mm. Maybe this is in the wrong forum... My question was...

How deep does conduit have to buried?

Hi, I have just finished chasing out the plasterboard for a new lightswitch - approx 1 meter long chase from the ceiling. (I've switched an internal door round, so I'm moving the light switch to the other side of the door) I'm going to be running the cables down to the new switch in oval...

Adding fused spur to cooker hood connection

I actually got that slightly wrong. The socket in the chimney is run as a radial circuit on its own from the CU. There is another radial circuit coming from the same breaker supplying a double socket. Can I still add an FCU to the end of the radial cct in the cooker hood? I've checked...

Adding fused spur to cooker hood connection

My cooker hood is supplied via a plug and socket that's mounted in the chimney! Can I add an FCU to this circuit to supply outdoor lights? The socket is fed from a spur off a v small kitchen ring protected by 16 amp breaker.

Wiring for Outdoor Light & Security Light

Tbh mate, I've only just realised that schedule 2B is only 2 pages of that document you sent me the link for. I thought the whole document was Schedule 2B and when I looked at it, my first thought was.... Life's too short!! :) Thanks BAS. That will come in handy for the future.

Wiring for Outdoor Light & Security Light

By the looks of things... extending the house would actually be easier!!!! Maybe I'll just shine some floodlights out the windows  Thanks for the advice Think I'll stick with the original plan... Feed from kitchen ring, to outside FCU supplying lights with the cable suggested above...

Wiring for Outdoor Light & Security Light

The house is newly decorated and I'm trying to minimize any cutting or chasing for boxes or wires indoors. But, let me see if I've got this right.... if I take a feed from somewhere other than the kitchen (or bathroom etc) and make all the connections indoors then the work isn't notifiable?!!!

Wiring for Outdoor Light & Security Light

Hey every1, After being put in my place on a previous thread for my thoughts on using an armoured to supply lighting and another CU, I've had to re think my plans altogether. I'm not gonna use the armoured anymore... I'll use it for the CU at a later time. For now, I need to supply an...

    Cabling between Armoured and CU

Thanks for the advice guys, I had no idea what a large job outdoor wiring was. Tbh, I was trying to kill 2 birds with 1 stone by using the existing armoured cable to supply lights and an extra CU. The only reason being that it's already there!! The idea of mounting an mcb in an enclosure...

    Cabling between Armoured and CU

I had thought about this... I was going to run an earth cable between the 2 earth tags on the armoured glands. I know its not ideal but thought it would suffice. I can just change the jb to a metal one. I hadn't checked the regs regarding this but its good to know its a no go!! I'll scrap...

    Cabling between Armoured and CU

I have recently wired up some outdoor lighting by cutting in to an existing armoured cable that runs down the side of my house and fitting a junction box (plastic, IP56) where the outdoor lighting is fed from via flex. The armoured cable then continues from the junction box underground to my...

    Wrong Cable cut!!!

Hey guys, I've made a bit of a school boy error!!! I've wired up some loft lights and planned to wire them in to an existing junction box in the loft but the junction boxes are mounted underneath plinths of wood that are fixed between the rafters. So, I decided to cut in to one of the...

    No central heating controller/programmer!!

The rts doesn't have a make or model written on it but I think it might have come with the combi boiler which is a Baxi. I know that the programmer doesn't need to control the hot water because combi boilers provide hot water on demand but I just don't want to waste gas by having the heating...

    No central heating controller/programmer!!

After hunting high and low, I've come to the conclusion that the central heating in my house doesn't have a programmer/controller!!! Is this normal? The central heating runs off a combi boiler. Is it easy to install a controller? The only control is a wireless thermostat and I obviously...
