    IS MDF Safe

As has been previously said, any MDF produced in the UK is manufactured to E1 standard for formaldehyde emissions. This basically means it is safe to us in just about all situations, and also to repeat what has been said there is more formaldehyde in carpet than in E1 MDF. The overwhelming...

    does MDF vary in quality

If you are using 6mm you should be OK if you use Kronospan. Krono make the 6mm is HDF (high density) they make it for laminate flooring core so its a higher spec board. As far as I am aware Kronospan do the Selco contract, so any 6mm from them should be HDF.

    does MDF vary in quality

things have moved on a touch - Caber (Norbord) now produce a lightweight MR grade now...... Ask the distributor/merchant to confirm its full density and not LW MR mdf if you are routing/CNC ing or doing anything else more demanding or going into the core of the board.

    How heavy is MDF

MR MDF is, generally speaking, denser than standard MDF. Medite "Premier" standard MDF is actually half way between lightweight and full density. I posted a bit of an explanation a few weeks ago, nothing changed since then. You will find it harder and harder to find technical information from...

CONTIBOARD or veneered MDF also question for JasonB!

Veneered MDF every time - Conti (MFC) is a generally lower quality material - the MDF core is much more reliable and the natural look of wood is what most people like, although we get plenty of punters moan that the grain and color of veneered boards isnt perfect enough. Printed melamine...

    DIY kitchen suppliers

Also, be aware of Kitchen companies in the North West - often new companies start up in the area who are the sporn of the imfamous Vance Miller. Not for one moment suggesting this is one, but its worth doing some homework to make sure you know who you are dealing with.

    DIY kitchen suppliers

www.diykitchens.co.uk The above I can reccomend both proffesionally (we sell material to them) and also personally (just had a kitchen in December) - they manufactur carcasses out of top quality 18mm MFC (well, arguably the best MFC available) and distribute doors from PWS just as almost all...

    Red white Wood

They are most likely offering you a choice of redwood (Scots Pine/Pinus sylvestris) or whitewood (Spruce/Picea spp) - you would be fairly hard pushed to tell the difference as a general DIY-er. Broadly speaking redwood is slightly better quality but not much in it, you get some whitwood...

    treating plywood

WBP = weather & boil proof, but this refers to the glue line only and not the actual veneers, for example most softwood/shuttering ply has WBP glue but us made from an inherently perishable speices veneer. Marine plywood still has WBP glue line the same but to confirm to the marine spec (BS1088)...

    Identifying white-faced ply

As your man above has said 'Gaboon' used to be used widely as a face veneer for Marine plywood - nowadays it is much less common but still available from time to time. The veneer is very bland and straw coloured, so could be what you are looking for. With regards to the marking of the board...

    Chipboard

Formaldehyde is naturally found in all wood and wood based products. It's a load of scaremongering about this and other VOC's in wood based panel products. Just about all chipboard produced at the moment conforms to European E1 standard and is as safe as it gets (BSEN 120 if memory serves)...

Birch ply wood. what does CPD mean?

You shouldn't cut WBP glue with a lazer, it will burn. You need to ask your merchant for Interior glue if this is how you will cut it, this is very important. Need any more help give me a shout.

    hi-gloss chipboard/mdf

You need somebody like IDS or Edens (Montague L Meyer) for high gloss MFC. You are likely to find white, black and a couple or 3 different creams and possibly even a burgendy type - you should get edging from Ney or Cadre. Be prepared to pay anything up to £100 or more for a board size approx...
