    it is a tank-in-loft nasty old fashioned rubbish system, to give it its full name...... the tie up the ball is a good idea, Im actually not bad with soldering, but the water in the pipes is making it v.difficult I will be looking to get a decent quote and get someone in asap...

    Not a bad idea, but I would kinda need drinking water in the meantime !!! What would be a reasonable quote for the work involved ? I assume it should be no more than 2 hours work for a professional plumber ? what kind of quote would be reasonable, for manchester non city area ?

    What size are the NUTS on Grundfos 15-50 pumps ?

    hmmm, just had a thought, the ISO valves use an olive ring on the 22mm connection so I cant just fit the new ISOs onto the existing 22mm side, as that olive has already been compressed and cant be re-used ? this would mean cutting pipe and soldering in a new piece ? Teddy

    Ive just spotted some spanners online; http://www.screwfix.com/prods/37949/Hand-Tools/Plumbing-Tools/Specialist-Plumbing/Pump-Nut-Spanner-52mm seems 52mm is the correct size, in hindsight, yes , it wouldve been better to remove the ISO valves too and fit new ones and complete new pump...

    I did use that type of plier in the end, but Im suprised that people arent using the correct sized spanner ? this would mean no slipping and no damaging to nuts... i used a blowtorch and still couldnt undo one side, hence I merely was able to rotate the pump enough to get to the motor...
