Aluminium window - small gap between window and frame

@phatboy thanks - worth though as I might not have thought of that! I put some tape on after making the video above as a stop-gap. It's up in the Scottish Highlands, which gets a bit breezy and chilly in the winter, so a combination of trying all sorts of foam strips + some tape might keep it...

Aluminium window - small gap between window and frame

Thanks again @KenGMac - for some reason I hadn't researched different types of foam strips, and yes, there are loads out there. This will be a good Plan B if I can't get the gap properly repaired. The foam idea was to seal the window permanently (not to be opened), but agreed not a great idea!

Aluminium window - small gap between window and frame

Thanks @KenGMac. I tried one of those 5mm adhesive strips but it wasn't quite wide enough to fill the gap. I'm wondering if there is some kind of foam insulation I could spray into the gap until the windows are replaced. I'm going to contact local window companies at the start of the week to see...

Aluminium window - small gap between window and frame

One of my windows has a small 2mm gap between the window and the frame: The window opens OK, and the hinges seem to be fine. But the gap is enough to let a small breeze through. I'd like to get it repaired, but have a feeling it's going to be difficult finding a company or joiner to do the...

    Oak Kitchen Worktop plaster stains

I've had my kitchen plastered recently, and unfortunately the worktop wasn't completely protected, with plaster getting onto the oak worktop. Some of the stains appear quite light, others darker and I expect deeper into the wood. I've uploaded a video with all of the stains here (with the...

Old 80s tap - how to take apart to replace washer?

Quick reply, thanks! Here's a side view of the tap: With the cap removed, should I just push up using pry levers where the green arrow is on each side?

Old 80s tap - how to take apart to replace washer?

My first post since 2010! Glad to see the forum is alive and well. Anyway, I've inherited a dripping tap, and thought I'd try to extract the washer, and get a replacement. This is what the tap looks like: After isolating the water, and removing the top cap, I see this: All I can see is...

Textured paint - does this look like asbestos?

Hi, I've been looking into ways to remove some textured paint in our flat, and have learned that there is a risk that the surface might contain asbestos. I've taken a close look at the rough texture, and noticed in some areas that there are some fibers sticking out from the lumps of paint...

Potterton Suprima 50 - normal operation?

Thanks Powell - so would you say that the boiler should be stopping and starting less frequently? I'm wondering what 'normal' operation would be for a Suprima 50....

Potterton Suprima 50 - normal operation?

Hi, I have one of the ill-fated Potterton Suprima 50 boilers, and am wondering if my boiler is behaving as it should. With the heating on, the boiler is triggered every 3-4 minutes, and runs for approximately 60 - 90 seconds. My problem is that the flame ignition and fan are very noisy when...
