    lighting circuit from ring mains?

You can put a fused spur in but you would still have to chase out the wall to the switch and light from the spur, may as well chase down from the lighting cct

    Which Size Meter Tails

I would say 25mm, but it depends on the layout of your meter ie how long are the tails, do they go through a wall, what size is the main fuse. Generally if you have an 80A fuse next to your meter then 16mm is OK, anything else use 25mm

    Earth

As Breezer said, a voltmeter will only show a potential difference. It is no indication that your earth is functioning correctly. The only way to do that is with an earth fault loop impedance test, and if you arent sure what that is then you need a sparky to do one :). Out of interest, why do...

Installing fluorescent lights in loft - junction box problem

sounds like there is a neutral being switched somewhere, possible in the landing light circuit. check the connections in the switch, light fitting and any associated joint boxes and make sure they are correct.

Finding the fault in ring main wiring

If you are saying that the MCB trips every time you reset it, even though there are no appliances connected then I would suggest you get a sparky. By "no appliances connected" I assume you mean actually unplugged and not just turned off.

    glazing

    ELECTRIC OVEN

It all depends on the size and type of the appliance. As most of the power in an electric cooker is used by the hob, if you have a gas hob then the oven can usually be connected via a 13A plug.

    ELECTRIC OVEN

As I understand ovens (and this may be different I agree) you can choose any setting but not all settings at once, therefore when the 2300W circular element is on you cannot have any of the others on and so you are OK on 13A. If however you could put something else on with this element the...

    ELECTRIC OVEN

You should be OK using a 13A socket, but it depends what else is on the same circuit. If you have a dedicated kitchen circuit then no problem, otherwise you may get the circuit tripping out if a lot of other stuff is running when you turn on the oven

    Loft Insulation

Thats the way I was thinking, but which will offer the best insulation, polystyrene + white glass fibre (2") or yellow insulation (4"). I think I can guess the answer but I dont want to cos removing that polystyrene is going to be a bi**h. :)

    Loft Insulation

I have found the following in my loft. 1 x 1" layer of polystyrene balls 1 x 1" white glass fibre insulation 1 x 4" yellow insulation I want to board the loft space, but the layers of insulation come over the joists by about 2". What would be the best way of boarding ? 1. Compress...

    Adding an Intermediate Liht Switch

It would help to know where the cables are currently connected. Most electrical wholesalers should carry a double switch, one of which is an intermediate.

    Additional Lights to existing circuit

Run a twin & earth cable, of the same size as existing, from the s/l, n and earth of the existing ceiling rose to the new fitting. Connect directly to the bulb terminals and all should be well

    2 Way Switch

Good point breezer, the joint box may be the answer. I would have thought that if plh1604 can identify the strappers he should be OK. So, working upstairs and testing downstairs with the power off and all wires disconnected, joint each of the three cables upstairs in pairs (RED&BLACK...
