Replacing lead main - do you have to pay the water company?

I did give them a ring about subsidy for replacing leaks, saying I know it's a bit cheeky since I'm fitting a whole new supply, if there are leaks I will be fixing them so am I entitled to a subsidy for doing it? They didn't directly answer the question but said they would need to check the...

Replacing lead main - do you have to pay the water company?

Oh right, sorry for being so dim. I'd have to dig it up to find out though wouldn't I, it was my plan to leave the lead alone and have the water enter the building in a different location so the lead pipes would be just empty cavities connected to nothing, hammered shut. Someone said I could...

Replacing lead main - do you have to pay the water company?

I know a couple of estate agents who say it does, presumably because it means you don't have a choice of having a meter or not having one and large families and the like would lose money by having a meter or those sorts who fit auto sprinklers to their gardens.

Replacing lead main - do you have to pay the water company?

Are you guys talking about the supply pipe on MY property? Because I'm fitting a new one so it won't leak. I thought you were saying I should pay to fix holes in the water companies pipes and why should I do that, that's what we pay water rates for.

Replacing lead main - do you have to pay the water company?

I'm unmetered so it's not a big problem if there is... I will ask them about it though. I wouldn't pay anything to fix the supply pipe myself when I don't pay for water consumption. I'm a low consumption user too, the only reason I haven't got a meter is because it lowers the property value.

Replacing lead main - do you have to pay the water company?

I had a problem with a malfunctioning stop-cock not long ago and when they hacked up the road there was a great deal of laughter, water contractors were around my area for the next couple of days making holes at different points in the road and pavement and changing things so I'm going to assume...

Replacing lead main - do you have to pay the water company?

My water company said they will send a trench inspector to check it's all kosha, gave a bit of advice on the regs and what to do with footings and said they would connect for free so long as I took my end to the property boundary and they would then replace their lead too.

Replacing lead main - do you have to pay the water company?

I thought I read on the forum once here that if you laid down all the new MDPE pipe yourself on your building the water company had to connect it up to their supply got free as it is replacing the lead, but the water company say I need to make an application and the application itself is almost...

T Connectors on Central Heating Systems near Boiler

Yeah it's a combi boiler, no tanks or anything like there and the pump and other fun are inside of the boiler it's a "black box" so to speak, does the lot. So it looks like a go for the plan. Thanks pal!

T Connectors on Central Heating Systems near Boiler

We have at the moment a central heating system which goes into the second floor and drops down to make connections to the first floor. It goes in a loop like normal systems do. Is it acceptable to put in a T-Piece near to the boiler exit and return of the loop (essentially making two loops...

The 45 degree corner pipe box in.

I don't have a table saw, I do have a jigsaw a steel cutting blade though and two workbenches with clamps. Think that should do the job? If so, where can I get a wallplate from?

The 45 degree corner pipe box in.

Not exactly a plumbing question but I bet it's the plumbers who do it. I've seen one of these, a 45 degree angle box in vertically across a corner of the room which unlike every other method of boxing in, doesn't look like s***. So how do you do it? Otherwise I'm going to have to sneakily...

Making UPVC doors fit wrong size gaps

There's a nice cheap second hand front uPVC front door but I measured my opening brick to brick and it's a little on the large size: 2071 x 921 mm (81.53" x 36.25") Where as this door (including frame) is only 33" wide, so I'd need to do something to "make it bigger". What do you do in...

    Dust Shield

My home isn't a home anymore is a dusty shell. Paint and dust don't mix. I painted a cupoard with that plasticoat spray and the finish was superb, except everywhere dust got on it. So it's obvious I need to create a dust free environment to do the spray painting. I do have a full face mask...

Good looking paint suitable for use on radiator

I wanted to be Mr Big and order all new chrome radiators but I can't afford it. Still, there's nothing wrong with the old imperial battle axes I took down other than looking like crap and needing a good flushing. Can I have some recommendations that will make the radiators look like chrome or...
