Replacing internal 40mm doors with 35mm doors

I have two pairs of internal French doors that need replacing. The doors are 40mm thick and are a matched pair at 78"x48" with rebated styles. The doors I would like to replace them with do not exist, the nearest is an XL Joinery matched pair that only come in clear glazing, not obscured...

New external door and exposed cavity- to fill or not to fill

I am not so much bothered about thermal loss, it's more the risk of water and damp if I fill with polythene and concrete

New external door and exposed cavity- to fill or not to fill

The tiles are 10mm porcelain so fairly weightly, trouble is there is nothing exposed of the outer blue brick to rest them upon. So 4" of tile would be resting on expanding foam filler in a farly high traffic doorway. I forsee movement and cracking issues.

New external door and exposed cavity- to fill or not to fill

Thanks for the suggestion, I am just a little concerned the expanding foam filler will not provide the stability to tile over. The cavity is 4". My preferred option would be to fill with blue membrane and concrete. Can anyone advise if this might cause damp problems? Thanks

New external door and exposed cavity- to fill or not to fill

Morning I have had a set of french doors put in where previously existed a window. The house is about 17 years old and has a good size cavity. Trouble is the cavity appears on the inside of the house and I am not sure what to do with it. I am having the floor tiled in a couple of weeks...

    Damaged anaconda

Hi Just been ripping out a [flood damaged] kitchen where the gas meter is rather stupidly placed on the floor located inside a rather botched cabinet. In my fervour to remove the ceiling a big lump of board came down on the meter and bent and holed the anaconda on the meter. The gas was...

Gas pipe to a Worcester System 24i boiler - nice job

Gas pipe to a Worcester System 24i boiler - nice job

Transpires there was a 22mm feed into the airing cupboard anyway [hate to say I told him so but I did], he just couldn't be bothered to lift the floor boards to find out. What up with a WB boiler anyway?

Gas pipe to a Worcester System 24i boiler - nice job

I agree it gets the job done, but it looks no good. The instruction to the fitter was not to worry about internal mess as the house is in a state, he has also got to chop out a 22mm cold feed through the fabric of the house. Consultation would have been a better option as he will now have...

Gas pipe to a Worcester System 24i boiler - nice job

Hi I came home from work to find a good length of 28mm copper growing up an exterior wall. Obviously this new 'feature' pleased me greatly, have a look at the picture: Fair enough I decided to relocate the boiler to the opposite end of the house, but to slap this up the exterior wall...

Hi I am getting a Megaflo installed in a couple of weeks time along with a new boiler etc. It just occurred to me the shower in the bathroom is pumped and has a little electric on/off switch. What will happen when the old cylinder/headers tanks are ripped out and the Megaflo goes in...

    Megaflo or Range Tribune?

Hi I have had 3 prices for a new heating and hot water system. Two of the heating engineers have quoted for a 300ltr Range Tribune, one for a 300ltr Megaflo. Can anyone offer advice on the benefits or otherwise of either brand as there is a cost differential? Thanks

22mm or 15mm cold water feed to Megaflo?

Hi I have had three heating engineers around to quote for a new boiler and megaflo system. Two have stated I need to put a 22mm feed to the megaflo, one has stated 15mm will be OK as the pressure is fine, but 22mm would be the ideal. Can anyone comment/advise as to whether I need to...

Hi Looking to knock through an internal wall. The wall is single brick and extends upstairs but does not support any roof structure. I am looking to generate a 2m apeture and have been advised by my architect that a 2.4m catnic lintel will be sufficient to take the load. Can I simply...

Hot Water in CH Header Tank

Sounds very much like the problem I have; interestingly enough two weeks after hot water started venting into my CH header tank the multiport valve stopped switching and I had no central heating. Having opened the value manually the heating came back on. I suspect this may explain the...
