Second light controlled by a security light with PIR

Hi guys I have a (Wickes) external security light with built in PIR at the front of the house. When I bought it the guy in the store told me that I could hook up a second light from it as well (to light the side of the house). However, there's nothing to this effect in the fitting...

    Tiles onto MDF ?

Thanks. I looked on B&Q's web site but couldn't see any plywood as thin as 3mm, only hardboard. I'll see if I can see any 'in store'and get it if I can. Other than that, sounds like I should use Evo Grip rather than tile adhesive. Thanks again

    Tiles onto MDF ?

Hi guys I need to run a small 2" / 50mm band of mosaic tiles around a bathroom at mid wall height. They're only 7mm thick vs 10mm for the surrounding tiles and after a few unsuccessful attempts trying to 'pad' them out with adhesive, I'm going to need to stick some 3mm MDF strip into the gap...

    No water from hot taps

Sounds like it may be your motorised valve that has seized up (?) but others more knowledgeable than me will confirm or deny / comment.

    Recommended Hot Water Temperature

Hi Guys We live in a hard water area and when we moved in we were advised to have the hot water cylinder thermostat set to 55 degrees. But it's an indirect system so I'm thinking that it should (in theory) never fur up inside. Would you agree and if so, is 60 degrees a sensible temperature to...

    Arbors (simple question !)

Hi guys, A simple question....... I need to cut a couple of 30mm tap holes in an acrylic bath. I've never done it before. Is this a suitable arbor and cutter to use ? Not quite sure how they fit together. If there's anything better, please advise. Many thanks ...

    Fused Spur Query

Many thanks for that clear, down to earth advice for this layman. I just wanted to know whether it was a safe thing to do, that's all. As I'll probably get a qualified Sparks to do the work anyway I'll at least be able to talk through the options with him. Thanks again for your help !

Yeah sorry, I really should have interpreted your 'You ****' remark as being helpful and constructive. My error.

    Fused Spur Query

Sorry - I thought this forum was for practical DIY advice, not for abuse from smart *rses!! In case you still haven't got it by now .... I'm looking for a practical, SAFE solution, as I've stressed from the very start (and others seemed to have understood straight away) My house, like 97% of...

    Fused Spur Query

If they are based on sound, practical advice from hands-on 'Sparks' then .... Yes ! If they are formulated by fat cat, theoreticians, with inflation proof pensions, and retirement at 55, 'Jobsworths' sitting in plush offices in Whitehall then .... No Mea culpa !

    Fused Spur Query

Thanks for that. In all of this I'm trying (!) to avoid lifting floorboards etc, if I can SAFELY get away with it. I can see that your solution gives greater independence and resilience but would you agree with 'Wangerman' that the alternative is actually safe, even though perhaps not ideal ...

Vibration from a pumped digital shower

Hi Guys I'm installing a pumped digital shower unit (Mira) and because of space restrictions, need to locate the actual mixer / pump unit under the bath. I know from experience that these can be fairly noisy and cause vibration. Any suggestions as to what I could sit it on to reduce both ? A...

    Fused Spur Query

Hi guys I've got a 3 amp fused spur installed (per the manufacturer's recommendations) to supply power a digital shower. I now want to install a second shower in an en-suite bathroom and I'm wondering whether I can safely pick up the power supply just after the 'RCD Protected Fused Connection...

New central heating / water controller

Many thanks Lucia, that's a big help. I'll talk to 'my electrical man' and see what he thinks. Thanks again !!!

New central heating / water controller

Thanks Lucia The system is a standard combined hot water / central heating system. There's a wired temp. thermostat in the hall and an upstairs hot water cylinder fed from a cold water tank in the loft. I believe the central heating is of a standard 'indirect' type, the boiler is about 7...

New central heating / water controller

Hi Guys I need to replace an old 'Boss Therm' central heating controller which is 'on the blink'. Probably over 20 years old and I can't find any Google references for it. Am I right in thinking I can use any one of the 'decent' controllers sold by Screwfix @ c. £80 ? Also, any tips or...
