Searching for a Bosch Dishwasher Waste Extension Hose

I would have thought that any piece of tubing with an appropriate internal diameter would do - something like 3/4" or 1" reinforced hose - the clear stuff with criss-cross string reinforcement- should be able to do the job just as well. Just make sure that the pipe run isn't too long as the pump...

    DVD Recorders with hard-drive

I was thinking of getting a DVD recorder then found a pretty good deal on a Yamada DV9000H DVD HDD recorder from PantherOnline - it's last year's model but got quite a good write up in some of the AV mags . Biggest bonuses for a budget model are that it's very quiet - heard some that have fans...

how to check upper arm rotation?

Turn off the dishwasher. Open door and set a programme. Stick some clear plastic over the open front of the dishwasher - use plenty of tape.! Latch the door interlock with a screw driver so that it is the same state as when the door is closed. Switch on the DW and watch the arms rotate...

Yet another washing machine in the garage question

Drainage is not drainage! Without investigating it is not possible to say where your rainfall downpipes run to - they may go to the sewer or they may run to a storm water drainage syatem. They may even just run into soakaways. Your washing machine should discharge into the sewerage system so the...

    saniflo

NBC suit - and somone else to wear it and unblock the thing. If you really do need a macerator (and unfortunately I did) I'd swap the UN-SANIFLO for a SANISPLIT - it has useful features like a drain plug to empty out the pump chamber, a built in one way valve which might stop "backflow" and...

    Copper pipes vs plastic

Quite agree BB - I was thinking of whole system situations - it also depends on the amount of copper - no need for short copper tails etc to be bonded where they join up with a mainly plastic system - probably for aesthetic reasons

    Copper pipes vs plastic

There are a couple of other factors where I believe Plastic has an advantage over copper - firstly I think it has better insulating properties so less heat loss from the pipes - keeps your hot water hotter by a few degrees! Consequently not so much lagging is required. In addition I seem to...

Who prefers the look of plastic over copper?

Depends what sort of plastic pipe - the semi industrial stuff like ABS/PVC looks good when neatly done. Have to say that even stuff like Speedfit and Hep20 looks OK if clipped properly. Looks better than the skanky old 1970's copper I had in my house anyway . I won't deny that well installed...

    Copper pipes vs plastic

You can - ABS or PVC or CPVC pressure pipe - valves are a bit pricey though! Needs to be pretty big pipe though if you want decent performance/pressures with hot water. Reasonably easy to work with - and the solvent smells great!

leaving electrical appliances on all night

Apart from the environmental issues of standby power consumption, I prefer to turn off appliances "properly" if I can - switch off and if possible/practical unplug them. I've had a kettle that had a meltdown in the kitchen whilst I was out - never did find out why the fault developed - it was...

    Sanishower

Have you looked at the Sanisplit range - can't remeber who sells them - possibly Plumbworld?. Have the advantage that when the inevitable block occurs the pump bit separates from unit so no need to disconnect the pipework. I think they have better performance pump-wise than saniflo units - more...

Toilet has started to continually flush

Most likely to be the flush washer on the outlet - they tend to get a bit stiff/manky and this prevents them making a good seal. Consequence is the cistern gently drains down , then the inlet valve opens to top it up - if you're really lucky thats when the pipes start singing because the inlet...

Technical question (my lecturer couldn't answer it!)

I thought you DID need check valves on mains supply to a WC cistern float valve? I'm sure I remember seeing that somewhere in the Regs, or a section from the regs - possibly WRC site? I've got them anyway - and isolating valves - and they're even labelled!

Technical question (my lecturer couldn't answer it!)

So I was part right then  Now all that's needed is a definition of a new installation  - I bunged one in when I renewed my water system a couple of years ago - just to be on the safe side. As it's a mains water system throughtout I also put single (or doubles depending on what...

Technical question (my lecturer couldn't answer it!)

All this talk of double check valves etc has stirred a faint memory that somewhere in the regs ts says that double check valves should be fitted at the mains stopcock? I know that not many people do have these fitted as it's probably a fairly recent (2000?) reg - but it does solve a lot of...

    Overflow Dripping

First question is what is this "overflow" attached to? If It's only 9ft up on the side of the house it seems a bit low for an overflow on a tank in the loft? Sound more like a wc overflow or combined HW tank overflow.

    Installing Stop Cock

Hopefully there should be one in the street! A good bet (unless you have a huge family)is to get a water meter installed by the water supply company - it'll have a nice new shut-off valve as well. Once that's done you can then shut off at the meter and install your own stopcock where the water...

Any regs/ similar etc for rooms with a sink?

Thanks for that Adam - I thought as much but wanted to be sure. I won't ask why a kitchen is a special location but a utility room or cloakroom isn't - or why if the presence of water isn't what makes it a special location a kitchen is regarded as such.?Oh go on, I will  Is it yet...
