    Moving socket

You don't normally need to take skirting off. Use a nice long SDS bit and drill down as parallel to the wall as you can. I would be tempted to Wago it and blank plate though. BLIMEY not a single mention of an RCD by anyone yet!

UK Mains Plug - "Flex Grip" Question

Plug is Screwfix code: 68744 Or how about rewiring the entire flex: 27122 Though will be able to find the second item much cheaper I should imagine.

UK Mains Plug - "Flex Grip" Question

You can get heavy duty plugs which would look better than your plug in the photo. I know Screwfix do them as got some a couple of months back.

    Found some nightmare wiring today

Bhm, If they are not happy about the lighting cct being rewired I would walk away. Dont give a price for changing the lights/switches to Class II fittings, the chances are some of the perished VIR will make it a nightmare, and then you will be up poo creak! Regards.

    13A Sockets with toggle/dolly switches?

Hi Ajma, i have had a quick look and cannot find them either. TLC stock a good range of toggle switches but alas no sockets. At a guess I would say they are only on switches as they are much more likely to be switched on and off regularly. And the shape of the toggle switch makes this...

Remedials on a EICR / DNO responsibility

Yes, I have previously reported issues with dodgy cutout fuse carriers and the like. I would always inform DNO where need be. Try again, silly me! Thanks Simple really!

Remedials on a EICR / DNO responsibility

Thanks Westie, I was going to mention your name in the subject box, as it is your area of definitive knowledge! But I did not want to make you feel in anyway obliged to reply! It was mentioned on a summary sheet with the EICR, as a non-coded improvement. I note what you say with regards to...

Remedials on a EICR / DNO responsibility

Hi folks, Asked to do some minor remedials on a third-party EICR. Query is this: it is the DNO's responsibility to upgrade the main earth (TN-S) to MET. It is currently approx 4mm CSA. The Ze is 0.36. Main bonding is all good. So would the DNO bother to upgrade it, or deem it satisfactory...

120V on CPC and annoying MFT1552 fault

Yeah, I was being lazy as torch was in the van, and it was late in the day. It was the merest tingle, and as I wired and ran cables and all IR tests were good I felt all would be ok. Me wrong! 50V is touch voltage. So it's more than 50V. The RCBO does not trip but tests fine also.

120V on CPC and annoying MFT1552 fault

I was waiting for that to come up! Empty property, dark outside, lights on. Forgot to do R2 as a dead test due to a distraction earlier in the day. I did the R2 and felt the merest of tingles, that's why I measured between the floating cpc and the rod.

120V on CPC and annoying MFT1552 fault

Oh, OK. I googled the fluke and then googled true RMS. I found a sales vid on youtube that stated that many meters chop up the AC sinewave to get an average, whereas a true RMS type meter does not. It also mentioned that the voltage measured can be significantly different between the two...

120V on CPC and annoying MFT1552 fault

Thanks Monkeh, I guess I am after a true RMS type of meter or an analogue one then. That fluke you mentioned looks pretty decent. Might wait and see if ISSWWW do a January sale!!!

120V on CPC and annoying MFT1552 fault

Thanks again. Will purchase one and give that a go. I tested it also with a Fluke Volt Indicator; that showed up no voltage, and with a digi multimeter (£30 jobby); that showed approx 112V. Any other sober/drunk input welcome! Especially on the MFT...

120V on CPC and annoying MFT1552 fault

Thanks Westie for your promptness. I take it you mean a traditional analogue type of meter?

120V on CPC and annoying MFT1552 fault

Hi, I recently rewired a lighting circuit, very simple set up of 5 pendants, 2 batten holders and 1 class I metal chandelier type fitting. Install is TT with Ze 62 ohms. IR all spot on and R2 approx 0.52ohms. I discovered that the CPC had 120V when it was not connected to earth. I know...

    Unsure of earthing type

Thanks for replies. Checked tester and thankfully that is fine. Though my TT Ze has crept up a little more than I would like, which does not bode well for a dry summer.Never got round to ringing DNO today but will have time tomorrow to do so. May well be piggy-backed from next door as it is...
