    Kitchen Plumbing

Okay, figured it out. The sink waste I bought was advertised as 40mm, but I now gather it's actually 1 1/4" BSP, which actually measures 1 1/2". What I need is the 1 1/2" BSP which actually measures 1 3/4". I should have known it was not as simple as buying a 40mm trap and a 40mm sink waste

    Kitchen Plumbing

I've got an old stainless steel sink that I'd like to keep, it doesn't have a large enough depression for the strainers. I'm live 1h drive from a DIY shop, so it's not easy to pop in. I've looked on Victoria plumb, and their kitchen wastes are still 40mm or 1 1/2". The trap I bought is for...

    Kitchen Plumbing

Hi, I'm changing the sink waste plug and trap for my kitchen sink. I've purchased McAlpine appliance trap 40mm and a waste plug with 40mm thread. I cant connect the female thread to the basin waste as the thread is approx 50mm. I've searched and not been able to find a sink waste plug larger...

    Underfloor Treatment

I'm looking into ways to sort out a smelly / musky problem I have in my house which comes from the damp earth solum under my house. The first thing I am doing is installing more air bricks to help the situation, but I'm not convinced that this will be enough. I've attached a detail showing the...

    metal stud on brick wall

I'm finishing off opening up my old fireplace for a wood burning stove. Regulations regarding flammable materials within a certain distance from the stove has made me look for metal stud work to attach plasterboard on the left and RHS walls. I've never used this before and can find many...

Magic Trowel, is it really magic?

Any ideas on the mix consistency. They say to water down a pre-mix, how much by i don't know. I guess just enough to make it suitable for rolling on. With regards to the mix I was going to use GTEC Smartmix Xtra (Readymix Lite) 20Kg, any comments regarding this?

Magic Trowel, is it really magic?

I'm needing to skim my walls as they are a bit of a mess after removing the wallpaper. I came across this whilst looking at guides. It seems to be an American thing but gets very good reviews for ease of use and finish. has anyone any experience with this?

best way of compacting type 1 mot by hand..

your going to struggle to get good compaction using this method, also a 50mm layer will be difficult to achieve since there will be stones bigger than that. Use the stone from 1m with about 6 passes with 100mm layers do get compaction. however, this still won't be to spec for the material...

    Flue support when widening fireplace

I'm in the process of knocking out the existing fireplace to fit a stove in. I've done this in my livingroom already with no fuss. Typically, something funky has been done to this fireplace sometime in its past so I need to do a bit of work to it to get it ready. One of the things I need t do is...
