I'm finishing off opening up my old fireplace for a wood burning stove. Regulations regarding flammable materials within a certain distance from the stove has made me look for metal stud work to attach plasterboard on the left and RHS walls. I've never used this before and can find many different systems, but mainly for partition walls. The issue I'm having is the existing timber stud is 1", but the only metal stud I can find is 2", any ideas?

the problem with this is there is existing plasterboard above the fireplace that's outwith the hot zone that I'll need to tie into, and that attached with the 1" timber stud

Float it out with sand & cement?

Could just buy 1 inch box section with the thinnest wall available... Might need to pilot drill it mind.
