UPVC Door - not locking since weather improved

It was fitted by a builder who it turns out hadn't done a UPVC door before... I know, I know... I have a specialist coming out to see if he can adjust or if needs be will remove the glazing and "repack" it apparently. Hopefully can get it locking at least although no doubt the life of the door...

UPVC Door - not locking since weather improved

Thank you - wish I could say that crack / overtightened fixing was the worst thing the "builder" had done to the house... I'll have a look and see if there's removable cap on the hinges - thanks again.

UPVC Door - not locking since weather improved

We had a backdoor replaced last year as part of a renovation with a new UPVC door. It fit just fine when first fitted but since the weather got warmer it's been more and more reluctant to lock - now it's stopped altogether. It shuts ok, handle lift is a little tougher than previously but does...

Washing lines (pole to pole) with pulleys?

Oh, interesting! Thanks. I imagine if they're for sailing they can handle the weight of wet laundry without any issues at all.

Washing lines (pole to pole) with pulleys?

Thanks for replying. Yes, I think I understand the principle - essentially a pulley at each post with a hook to tie on - loosen to lower the line, pull to height then tie in place? I've asked on the local community Facebook group to see if any scaffolders are around - I did try asking the...

Washing lines (pole to pole) with pulleys?

We're looking to get a washing line set-up in our back garden. We live in a valley so our garden is quite elevated from the house - as such there's not really a tether point on the house suited to attaching a line. The previous owners appear to have had two scaffold-pole like tubed concreted in...

Brick wall under stairs cupboard - sealing with paint?

Hi everyone, We are in the process of renovating our under-stairs cupboard into a more useful storage space. The wall (external wall) the stairs are on is unplastered and rather dusty. My partner was keen that we board it - but I'm thinking (to save on space) of just painting it to seal it up...

    Tidying up around sockets/switches

Good tip thank you - actually the boxes are in place pretty well, the electrician was a perfectionist. The plasterer less so...

    Tidying up around sockets/switches

Thank you so much @Wayners - really useful advice. I've purchased a box of Toupret today and have some of the Sockitz boxes already in situ so I'll see how I go over the weekend. Perhaps a stupid question - but any tips on the best grit of sandpaper to be using once the filler is set?

    Tidying up around sockets/switches

Hi there, We had our house replastered and rewired throughout. The builder who did the plastering did a pretty messy job generally (should have found a dedicated plasterer I know...) but particularly rough around the sockets/light switches. He has offered to come back and tidy with some filler...

Installed Tado Smart valves - now our tower rail is leaking...

Hi folks, I spent some time over last week installing our Tado kit onto our central heating. We have a Baxi 830 boiler with 11 standard radiators and one towel radiator in the bathroom. All had TRVs when installed except the towel rad. The whole system - boiler, pipework and rads are new and...

Thank you! Sorted. Wish I'd posted here rather than contacting Tado hours ago now.

Tado extension kit - wiring into Baxi 830 combi.

Thanks @CBW Just been back through the setup instructions in the Tado app and it doesn't mention touching this block of wiring so it could be the issue. Just power off an remove that yellow link cable? Cheers, Steve

Tado extension kit - wiring into Baxi 830 combi.

Hi @cross thread - thanks for replying. The Tado app advised me I needed to buy a separate power cable so I have a plug to two core cable providing the power to the extension kit. (it is powering up correctly from a socket). The blue and brown cables are capped with insulation caps at both...

Tado extension kit - wiring into Baxi 830 combi.

Any Tado experts lurking here? I had a go at connecting a Tado Wired Extension Kit (wired so it supports OpenTherm) to our Baxi 830 boiler earlier. All seemed to go well according to the app - but changing the thermostats right down to zero doesn't seem to do anything to the heating and the...

    Fixings advice please

Hello, Hoping for some advice on fixings. We've had our bathroom redone. As well as the new suite, the walls have had a new skim of plaster and then been clad with 'Eazipanel' plastic sheets in a mock-tile effect. (8mm plastic cladding). I now need to put up a bathroom cabinet, toilet roll...

Joining laminate kitchen to tiled hallway floor. 2cm level change.

Hi all, Hoping someone can help. We've restored a lovely old minton floor in our hallway - but have been struggling with handling the threshold between this and our kitchen laminate flooring. The kitchen floor is 2cm higher than the hall tiles (kitchen extension floor was always higher but less...
